Was that audio filter in Timeless River present in the original release of the game? That's a pretty cool touch.

I think so but I think it was only really applied to the cutscenes in the PS2 version. Either that or the filter they used was too low to notice. I feel they really cranked it up for the re release cause some of the audio crackles can be a little annoying.

This is about all we get in KH2. They do mention a bit more if you bother with Disney Town in BBS and I think Re:Coded?

So Port Royal aint in the KH2 manga as far as I know so instead of a scan we get some sweet trumpet midis instead.

Port Royal is a pretty cringe-worthy adaptation of the first PotC. It could have been a lot better, even ignoring the shoddy voice acting, if they'd spent some time and imagination to come up with an original plot instead of just a slapdash cliff notes version of the movie's story, but I suppose the same could be said of a lot of KH's worlds. It just... really stands out here in particular.

I mean, at least they actually had Ming-Na Wen voice Mulan.

One of the first times that my wife and I hung out was going to see PotC 3 in theaters with some mutual friends. To this day I still haven't seen PotC 2 and after seeing 3 I think I "get" it.

Also I can't think of the PotC movies without thinking of this story from MBMBaM-

At least the slow video schedule let me catch up. Though I did want to talk about some points in the videos:

1. About the Minnie Escort section, it's not really a troublesome spot in the speedrun at all. It's actually very simple, all you do is walk forward a little bit to consistently get Minnie's walk RC, walk forward a bit until the heartless come to you, then use the Faith RC. You're invincible during the whole attack and the Bolt Towers have very slow wind ups on their attacks, so you can easily react and get through the section relatively quickly. It's not even the most unfun gimmick section in a game with tons of random gimmick sections, honestly.

2. About going Valor form during the Boat Pete fight, it actually does increase Sora's strength during the crane part so it is nice to use it there. Valor form also increases the strength of the initial RCs at the start of the fight where you launch back the poo poo Pete flings at you, so in general Valor form is good for that segment.

3. A really weird thing to me about this game in general, but most apparent imo in the Disney Castle and Port Royal cutscenes, is that there are a bunch of scenes that seem to lack music. Music doesn't have to play over every cutscene or anything, but there would be these cutscenes where some funny or dramatic action going on which typically does get music. Here, these scenes just feel really drab as is.

That's more fair, and I guess it made me realize that I might've been arguing a different point. Terra's pants are definitely a more realistic style compared to Sora's, but in terms of the overall outfit I felt Terra's hakama doesn't match the tight shirt. Sora's outfit is definitely a giant hot mess, but at least that mess's style's elements felt more consistent. Individually it's worse, but in context to the outfit I do think Sora's matches better than Terra's.

That would explain how the boat fight went by so quick. I remember it taking longer the last time I did it. Also that seems to be a problem with this game at times where it just goes quiet when it feels out of place and vice versa. Or worse when they reuse an original track when they recreate a scene from a movie. This sticks out a lot with Pride Lands, but I can't fault them for that. Just sounds out of place.

I'm not liking my randomness to upload but not a lot I can do about that. Just got to find a good time to get these prepared in advanced. And again, no manga shot since they also didn't use Nightmare Before Christmas either. Next best thing!

A very very very stupid and contrived circumstance explained in Birth by Sleep. It also retcons the explanation given in KH2.

Kind of. It's still the same scenario (banished to another dimension), it's just that Minnie does it instead of Mickey. I mean it's still dumb but yea.

Anyhow, always late with these updates but Christmas vacation is soon so our little group should have more downtime to get more episodes in. In the meantime, I may do something on my own to help fill in the gaps. Like bother to do an SSLP of Re: Chain of Memories and see where I can go with it.

Yeah the Scar fight is really strange at first because he switches a lot from being able to be hit-stunned to not, and in some of the cases it's not clear exactly when that is since it isn't right as soon as his attacks finish (like you'd expect from most every other attack in the game). You can still stun him in all those modes at some point though once you learn it, and it makes the fight a lot more fun, but it's certainly weird.

Also,

"Whats the millenial term for yiffing?"
"Ummm, being depressed."

had me laughing for a good bit, ty

Well gently caress me, you're right. Looks like I uploaded the raws instead of the proper videos. The Youtube links should be fixed now and I realized I left some extra clips in 24 which is why it's just 10 minutes of blank at the end. So that's currently uploading too on the host.

Only for the first game. It also turns out that it was also just subtitles in the Japanese release of KH1FM too. For the second game onwards, they were properly voiced otherwise that scene would be very awkward.

To confirm something from the first Tron video, you can't necessarily kickflip off of enemies on the skateboard, but riding around on the skateboard and doing the preset tricks at the enemies does damage them a little. The damage is very small, even when you're level 99, but it's still kinda fun.

Also I'm glad we saw the best cutscene in the game, where it's just ~2 minutes of a dude walking down some stairs

Ok yea, no kidding. Easy telegraph too so very forgiving for anything that isn't a Lv. 1 Critical run. Still almost died from the last few attacks though.

As I mention in the video, I got just about everything recorded, with only a few more fights left to do (Mushrooms XIII, Lingering Will, Data Org maybe) and then there's the editing. Reaching the end, very slowly.

Barbossa (not "Barbarossa") came back at the end of the 2nd movie and was a protagonist in the 3rd movie and kind of an antagonist in the 4th movie (until he wasn't). Main antagonist of the 4th movie was Blackbeard.

Edit: I actually like this part of Agrabah. It feels a little more fleshed out and the direction in the cutscenes is a lot better (in particular, the one of Team Sora confronting Jafar at the palace is actually pretty good).

Just in general, the revisits are better than the initial visits--the game plays to its strengths when it's doing new things with its various worlds instead of just lamely rehashing the originals.
