If you don't care about your standard dump characters you can have Name00001 with a free rename pending for it whenever you want to use it. That's really all there is to it. There are plenty of ways to solve it but seeing as they had database issues with the MTX system I'm not very hopeful they'll ever get to it. There are still dozens of major MMO releases by gigantic companies that face day one issues, it's pretty commonplace. People do talk about the launches that go well actually, every time an MMO expansion goes smooth the threads tend to be crowded with posts about how surprised they are with it going smooth because for every one of them there are memories of Diablo 3 error messages, Simcity not working, and the fantastic lag of some WoW expansions. Or more recently still, PUBG dying repeatedly.

In PoE at least you get some diversity playing through the campaign and then you get to repurpose the gear you had acquired thus far selling it for items for your new character if you want. It can be tiresome but every time I played a D3 season and thought of rerolling, as soon as I thought of the grind needed to get the character up to speed I went "ugh god no" and gave up on the idea. It's kinda like how someone once pointed out EVE Online has grindable levels and experience, it's just called money instead since you can use currency to buy characters legally. Hence why I said it comes down to preference, which game is the least likely to get you burned. I don't mind leveling a character in PoE at all, but rolling the dice and grinding the items needed to wrap up a build for an alt in D3 can be unbelievably boring. I'm pretty sure there are people who feel the opposite and are more annoyed at having to reroll than having to grind the material farm in D3 for hours. This is assuming you're interested in playing the endgame, otherwise none of this matters. Edit: Just to make it clear, if we want to compare newbie-friendliness, then yes Diablo 3 will absolutely crush Path of Exile in that aspect and it's almost inevitable that your first character in PoE is going to suck horribly hard. Goldrim and Wanderlust are pretty bananas. I also enjoy Lycosidae when I have the chance for the fun factor of seeing everything in A1 and A2 killing itself.

I'm a very patient man. Besides I had two, I took one in the first league available, played with it enough to take it out of my system, and keep it on standard. I kept the other on remove-only until I felt like using it. I liked FoO enough to take it out.

Not that it matters much but I personally like Lochtonial Caress as my pair of gloves of choice until Kitava. Plus you can equip it on level 1. You're pretty much stacked on charges all the time, it's great.

I know this isn't a big accomplishment anymore but I finally killed Shaper. The first attempt I wiped on his second phase, the second I managed to kill him with 2 portals left. That was super thrilling.

Speaking of the OP builds, this was the build I played further this league (Cyclone Slayer): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YbcFGezpKI It's the first build with which I managed to do all guardians, shaper and breaches, killed Shaper on my second ever attempt.
