We've got pretty decent stats so combat after this first book will not be that big of a deal, it's just kind of rough early on as the first 3 books more so than the others have a lot more "you chose poorly" type instakill scenarios in it, the second one in particular but we'll get to that when it comes up.

Also let's head Right

The rules technically say that you regen one point for each page done without combat, we haven't had a combat this page so really you could regain that lost point immediately. Plus if you didn't have healing that would be a health point that is totally gone so i would call it a perk of having that discipline.

Although OP is in charge here, so we will keep our boo-boo :v:

So just a fun fact since we are now past that wagon with the kids, there is no downside to running away. The page afterwards is basically a "are you sure you want to do that, you monster?" but the rest goes on like you had saved them.

get their attention Probably a good idea to tell the local royalty we're all that's left of the warrior monks

I always either take the river or the graveyard, running straight towards the entirety of the enemy army always seems like a pretty obvoius game over to me.

Keep running We have enough to health to take any kind of damage from a fight that might occur.

We have potions correct? The only time you can actually use them is in combat right? or is it only outside of combat?

So i know it's jumping ahead a bit, but other than exploring the graveyard closely or going your own way through the city, the next book mentions some items that i don't know how you'd find otherwise.

But in any case, we are to close to the end to risk getting shanked in an alleyway or something. So lets follow him

Not sure what you're referring to here?

It's not really made clear in the text, but our original escort has slipped away somehow and we can only choose to follow the new guy or try to find our own way. There's no possibility of staying with the first guy.

some kind of key or crystal i want to say? i might be thinking of something between the 2nd and 3rd books then.

There's one particular Special Item Crystal Star from Banedon in this book you can only pick up VERY early on (like miss it if you take the wrong path 1st or 2nd choice of the book.) To my knowledge it only has one unique use in the second book, otherwise it simply serves as a reminder that, 'Hey, something happened in book 1' without any obvious benefit.

I believe you can pick up an encounter specific key in the Graveyard as well as 20 gems from smashing skulls but I don't think they're ever referenced again in the series. I'll admit that I don't recall all the specifics of this first book perfectly.

That's exactly i was thinking of! i haven't found it in either runs of the first book i've done so far though so who knows what it actually does.

Anyway, since we still have that fancy sword from the Prince, lets be better at using it by taking Weaponskill-Short Swords. Let's also grab the shield since i don't recall many other opportunities to get one otherwise.

I feel like this whole "lost" section was suppose to be longer when originally written, but maybe trying to survive and mcguyver your way back to civilization would have made the book to long?

In any case we've got the money to spare and we did kind of scare the guy Pay to ride inside

There is a way to make this super obvious, but i believe the only way to see it would be to have enough money to buy the ticket, but not enough to pay the 1 gold for the inn room. Perhaps if you start with this book then that might be an issue since there's not a ton of opportunities to get gold in this so far.

For my vote, lets attack Parsion

My first time through this i did in fact murder the merchant, i figured only sombody with connections could possibly afford such rare and powerful poison. :v:

Now why nobody is willing to listen to you and look at the note, and why the Knights of the White Mountain aren't willing to stick up for you at this point? Who knows. But let's Run because these guards are probably the second hardest fight in the book and it's a nice little escape sequence that we have here.

You like Castle Death the most? I'm kinda the opposite, that's probalby the first book where Dever was like "okay, enough of this Sommerswerd bullshit, all combat is going to be hard and there will be a ton of instant death traps" i do like the setting at least though, a classic dungeon crawling adventure.

Since we are already past him, the dude in the circle is EVIL! You know this because he guesses the previous Lord in Ragadorn's name instead of the current one, you DO remember that random name that random lady told you last book right? :v: Also yeah the Silver Helm is the big take way out of Book 2 since there isn't anything else like it that increases CS. The Firesphere is pretty good as well though, we will get much use out if it!

Anyway, let's try our luck with a random Weaponskill as well as taking the Chainmail Coat and the 2 potions

Oh yeah, forgot about him. Not just evil but in fact a Helghast sent by the Darklords to kill Vonotar for his failure. He'd managed to imprison but not kill it, and you've got to assume that the Darklords probably sent more than one, so it kind of makes our mission look a bit like a waste of time.

And yes, Weaponskill is with a random weapon. There's a 4/10 chance of getting something that works with the Sommerswerd, but otherwise it's pretty much a waste.

Didn't know it was random until reading this thread! Especially considering the Aeon version with the statskeeper app just lets you click whatever whenever you want.Made me wonder why there are so many options when past the second book there is no reason to pick a weaponskill that isn't sword/bow related.

Like, even considering you could pick any book in the series as a starting point and could not have the Sommerswerd.i don't recall that many different types of weapons being in one book over another so starting "fresh" there's not much point to it either.

Tiggum posted:

Nope. You have to use it as your weapon to get its bonuses. You've got to have some limitations.

It's written vaguely enough to NOT have limitations though! i say we Zoro this poo poo up and wield our holy blade in our mouth while dual-wielding 2 other weapons we find this adventure :v:
