Sorry if this has been asked, but what's the multiplayer like? Is it true local split-screen multiplayer like Mario Kart or is it just a lie like in Splatoon 2?

Oh man. That sounds fantastic. I'm going to be getting a copy on Sunday so I'm looking forward to that.

I definitely feel like The Rabbid Bros fit good niches and are solid choices. Peach is fantastic in her way and her counterpart, whose damage has tempered off in my game is fine.

I just got R. Yoshi and he's bad? Seriously I can't figure out what to do with him that's of any use to anyone except perhaps making smashers a non-issue. Also that weapon seems wildly weak. I hope Yoshi proves more interesting/better.

The way I see it is that Peach is a fantastic team player, but she cannot go solo into a fight the way the Rabbids can (excluding R. Yoshi who, again what is is deal?)

It's why she pairs so well with Mario because to get the most out of him you need someone he can jump off of. The enemy just crumples as you advance them together flipping through the air through a main front and you let your self-sustainable rabbid wreak havoc from the flank. The only real pity is you can't have more than 2 Mario characters because there have been times I would've liked to have Luigi's sniping in the mix.

This Bowser Jr midboss battle without anybody dying is hard.

This is where I've hit my first wall. I've managed to perfect every other level after 1 or 2 tries tops, but I'm having trouble gauging distance here for whatever reason. The fact that he can attract you and then hit you, every turn at that, is what keeps messing me up.

The mecha was a pain until I realized the secret is to not give his valkyries any cover close to him, you have to blow it up in the battle before. Since they refuse to stand without cover they don't approach and more importantly don't shield him. This gives you the chance to overwatch him to death in a turn or two. It took me several tries before acing it.

Finished the game yesterday and I can't believe how well Yoshi's guaranteed critical ability synergizes with his rumblebang, it's crazy.

Weakest characters are probably Rabbid Yoshi and Peach, I think. Rabbid Yoshi has a very weak dash and you rarely need to dash that many times, and his forced movement ability doesn't synergize with his weapons like Rabbid Mario's does. Peach is a shotgun-toting monster that has a lot of trouble closing distance and you can't use itchy feet on her. She's very good when you've got her in a good place but between her bad movement and her overwatch being extremely good at hitting friendlies she's very challenging to use well imo.

Peach is pretty much custom-made for escort missions. She keeps your toad fully healed if you're jumping off with Mario every turn, which lets you take more risks with the little dude such as leaving them in an advanced position with little cover. The 3rd man can then be a vanguard or protect your rear (why you'd ever protect your rear is beyond me though).

I never came across the instance where Luigi's speed boost was necessary for acing escort missions. Also being pretty frail I find him not so great at offensive advancing work. He's so much better when he can jump instantly between two sniper posts pelting away at enemies below. Honestly, if there isn't a good high-ground area for him on the map I don't bring him. I know he'd do fine (3x overwatch is so useful), but it allows me to try out other characters.

I think I just found out R. Yoshi's niche. I don't know how you guys did it, but so that I only had to re-do each world for challenges and collectibles, I went into them after finishing the main game. It was here I realized that R. Yoshi can clear out early maps in one turn, if you bring Luigi along. Those maps tend to be small, allowing him to dash EVERYONE (and since the enemies tend to have <100hp they die), those who can't reach he screams at unlocking the Mario Bros. x2 and x3 overwatches.

It's not much, but I've used him pretty steadily from World-1 through World 2, and no one clears those maps better than him.

You may argue that the AOE of R. Mario or Yoshi are just as effective, and maybe they are, but I never upgraded their moves because of friendly fire. The pin-point precision of a dash is way more useful and less costly on your health.

Do the challenges in world 1. The game is balanced so that it assumes you do that. If you don't, world 2 will be considerably harder and if you go back and do the challenges, they'll be pretty brainlessly easy with very underwhelming rewards.

Yeah I didn't do that but that's because I didn't want to run across a puzzle that needed a BEEM-O ability I didn't have, I really hated running through the overworld several times, particularly world 3. What a mess.
