This is the one game in recent memory where I was so loving ready to hate when the promo material leaked then went from 0 to hype as gently caress the second it was actually announced.

Ready for the Doorn DLC.

Still laughing that this game somehow got the same release date as the Xcom 2 expansion pack.

Yeah, sucks for XCOM 2. No one is going to buy the expansion while this game is out.

Inescapable Duck posted:

I'd figure given the pattern of Nintendo games, there's the core story campaign which ramps up to some degree, then postgame challenge maps and/or a Hard Mode. They don't want to scare the children away with the difficulty, but tend not to have anemic content.

There's an easy button you can hit before a level (or after dying) that heals you back up and halves the enemy health so kids should have no problem.

If co-op ends up as fun as it looks, I’m definitely down for more maps. Especially since that looks to be the best way to get a hard game going.

I got my copy of this dumb rabbit game. I’ll play it when my husband gets home. He wanted to play too. We’ll either do the co-op mode or play story mode and pass the controller back and forth. Probably both? Should be a hoot!
You need to play a bit before co-op is unlocked but the game so far is super loving fun. Also just had my first not perfect :negative:

Also, fun interaction: if you use Mario’s reaction shot skill and then score a critical bounce or cause an explosion that knocks a rabbid into the air, it will trigger the reaction shot. Poor fucker got crit by Luigi, which made him bounce off the map but not before Mario score a mid-air reaction shot, blasting him off even further.

is there a difficulty setting and can you change it during your playthrough?
Not during the first play through. There’s an easy mode you can choose before each stage. The difficulty is set the same as other Mario games: once you clear a world, you can then replay the levels with added challenge/difficulties.

So like, how much depth does this game have? Is it XCOM lite? Or can I modify guns and wear different armour and choose different loadouts and level up characters and choose specialisations for them and

There’s plenty of weapons to choose from and each character has a skill tree you’ll need to manage.

I just finished the first world. God drat that boss fight was amazing. It’s stupid how long it took me for it to “click”. I have no idea how I managed to not lose anyone during it.

And now I can replay the cleared levels for gold medals I missed AND also replay the world for challenges? Yeah this game is going to end up taking a whole lot more than 20 hours to complete.

EDIT: holy poo poo do not try the first challenge as soon as you get it.

there’s usually a small box near the enemy denoting your chance to hit them, being either 100 %, 50 %, or 0%

He meant if there’s a way of knowing what those % are going to be before you move to a specific location. I don’t think there is without actually moving.

Not getting perfects because I take my sweet time killing everything is annoying but it’s also forcing me to really look deeper into the movement system and just how far you can move/jump in one turn.

World 2 midboss: i completed destroyed that fight. Cleared it in two turns by focus firing on the two Rabbids. Technically would have been three turns but the sand/grenade tossing one ended up killing Mario and itself with a grenade. So no perfect clear for me. :argh:

So far I like the Rabbid characters better than the traditional Mario ones. :negative:

At least right now they both have double dash (one with vampire) for 50 damage which helps clear/deal with a lot of poo poo. Luigi is a drat good sniper but I’m finding myself running and gunning a lot more.

The challenges are basically puzzles where you need certain skills / damage thresholds to complete. The first challenge is a good example of it. You should be able to clear it right away but you’ll probably need to spec for it if you’re playing one particular way.

Reminder you can reset your skill tree at any time and respec before battles.

the boss of the 2nd world is kicking my aaaaaass.
I just beat it. I actually died the first attempt but knowing how the fight goes helps a loving lot. He doesn’t hit too hard so you can/should rush his first two phases ASAP. After that he runs back and stays stationary. He has a big range and goes overwatch every other turn... but you CAN hang way back and he won’t be able to shoot at you. From there you can deal with the other rabbids and then move in for the boss. I ended up missing the turn limit by 2 but I think I can avoid that with stronger weapons.

I’m missing 2 collectible chests in world 1 and I have no idea where they could be.

Happy Noodle Boy

Rabbid Luigi is my MVP. maxing out his vamp dash and damage means I can just use him as bait then sweep the whole map dashing fools and healing myself back up then using the rocket launcher to blow whatever cover the enemies have so mario and Luigi can finish them off.

I’ve had to change my team and tactics for world 3 but the game continues to be super loving fun.

Oh and I had an enemy crit Mario so hard the app crashed. Second time I’ve seen the title screen for the game since it’s all I’ve been playing.

so is this game fun if you're an xcom vet or is it like alright but you feel like you have to like it because there aren't any games on the switch?

It’s good streamlined XCOM fun. They do a lot of good with the movement and it’s all simplified (0/50/100% chance on shots) combat that focuses on flanking and dashing/team movement and abilities.

You can’t chop up Luigi to become a mech, unfortunately.

Luigi is actually bad and very map dependent. He's a glass cannon and if you have to deal with either multiple fights in the chapter or close quarter maps and you don't get to keep control/overpower the enemy right away, he's going to get killed. He's mostly useless against the beach ghost stages of world 3.

On big maps he's great, though.
