Reminder that the guy who did the music for the Death Note and Kaiji anime got busted with weed and was permanently blacklisted by the industry. Lol

I remember some years ago one of the AKB48 girls got caught having a boyfriend (gasp! the nerve of her!) and the producers basically forced her to shave her hair and make a tearful apology for her transgressions live on TV. What I'm getting at is, while I like Japanese media (with some significant exceptions), their values as a society overall are all sorts of hosed up.

Everything Burrito posted:ah yes, jokes such as these When a country doesn't have laws against child pornography until loving 2014, that speaks to the values of the culture. You can't just make the argument that it is 'some section' of society, because even though the actual consumers of the media are pretty low, the fact that it takes decades to address the problem in the same society that also censors porn speaks volumes. The fact that the author here is back to work despite being publicly arrested for having a Smaug-esque horde of child abuse photos and videos, that his 'punushment' was the price of a 2006 Nissan armada is a japan problem. Waving it off as a small subsection of perverts ignores the fact that as recently as 2013 you could walk to an open air market in a major Japanese city and buy images of child abuse, and that the only thing that has changed in a lot of these places is a flimsy veneer about how the girls are totally 18. At best you can argue apathy on behalf of Japan with regards to this issue, which is still really, really bad.

Hm, it's been a few months, has the moral quandary of two of my favorite written works ever being created by a supporter of the victimization of children gotten any easier to deal with? It hasn't? Cool. Guess I'll go back to cringing every time I see one of my Buso Renkin paperbacks.

I know readership is down in general but isn't some of that because people are not buying the weekly mags more and just grabbing the tanko of what they want to read instead. I think tanko sales haven't dropped the same way.

I think tanko sales haven't dropped the same way. Might be one of the reason why free online magazines are on the rise. The mangaka are barely getting money from the magazine prints and the ads inside mainly offset the print cost. Shonen Jump regularly has ads for cheap training equipment. Wanna get buff like Goku?
