This certainly gives unfortunate context on why all the women in the series (who were supposed to have fighting skills, mind) were sidelined out of anything important and constantly shown as lesser while the actual 10 year old boy was treated as an equal member of the heroes team, which was pretty grating on the reread to begin with.  Certainly hard to recommend the series to anyone ever again despite the many great, iconic things about it. Eh? I mean that's weird as I don't think every almost every Shonen Author is a pedophile. Also Tokiko from Buso Renkin is probably one of my favorite female characters in any shonen. Also, Kaoru fought in Kyoto, Yahiko wasn't trusted or treated as an equal member of the team until after that fight against that assassin tools user, and even then the only reason he won that fight was because Kenshin interjected. So the manga/anime series that pretty much defined my teens and college years is the work of an accused pedophile? I tried to think of the right words to describe my feelings but they didn't quite match up. Disgusted, disappointed, sad, horrified, scarred, bitter. This Thanksgiving I'm going to put my RK tankobon, art books, and swag I have on display at home and work in a box somewhere. It'll be a while until I find things that will fill the literal gaps on my wall/bookshelf and the figurative ones in my mind that RK once occupied.

It is depressing as hell that one of the few mangaka out there that did popular shonen stuff without ever drawing as much as a single 2d boob or even having a scantily clad heroine in his work is an actual pedophile. Even if you avoid the fanservice and harem exploitation bullshit you might end up giving your money to someone even worse. There is no escape.

It's super hosed up to hear that the author of one of my favorite mangas of all time is a pedophile, but I am hoping beyond hope that Oda is not someone he names or who knew about this in anyway. Oda was one of his assistants during Kenshin's publication, and if this creepy mangaka sex-ring that apparently exists pulls One Piece down with it, I am going to be really depressed.

So a thought occured: Despite the cancellation, the story actually wraps up pretty neatly. The four villains of the arc face off against Saito. Saito murders them all and Kenshin and family go on a fun family vacation. The end.
