Hello and welcome once again to another chat thread! Pull up a seat and chill out!

Now of course I could pull up the usual OP but blah blah blah you know the drill, this is a chat thread, we chat and and there's a broken rear end Subaru or 10 to fix. Like seriously, I have so many goddamn Subarus it's become it's own AI meme and its funny anymore I have a problem... not enough space for them in the driveway.

Also please note politics is a specifically banned topic in AI these days.

So anyway one of the most bizarre things I have seen in the router logs over the last year has been ASMR videos. You do get the usual clickbait illogically huge breasted girls jumping in ont he fad but you also have a bunch of people who are really REALLY earnest about the whole thing - and they really do produce some of the oddest but harmless videos. I find the whole thing amusing myself....... until I found the dark side of ASMR and summoned an Elder God. Here I was just relaxing when it appeared - He was huge and his visage was frightening. He towered over me and demanded to know my name. Frightened beyond frightened I stammered "Cat". He seemed to be pleased but he wanted more. "What is your mother's named?" he thundered. "I... do not have one" I replied. "Then what is your pet's name?". I looked down, trying not to piss myself in fear. "Stig" I replied. The Elder God stood there, raised it's arms and then said in a voice that broked no argument....

In breaking news, Sebastian Loeb has been found out as having a secret life as a porn star. In a bombshell that has shaken Citroen – but in all fact pretty much everyone else knew – a keen eyed observer has spotted Loeb in a video on fuckingmachines.com – as the machine.

“It was a surprise to be sure and he does look unfamiliar without hos human disguise on but no one can mistake his movements as they are so precise and his voice – ‘Ummmmmmmmm yes I think so ummmmmmmm yes do you ummmmm like it like ummmmm that’ – even without his fake french accent he’s unmissable” said Ima Wanka, 21 from his parents basement. “I was all like getting off and then I realised he was Sebastian Loeb so after cleaning my screen I phoned the News Of The World”

“It’s about time that bloody robot got outed” said Malcom Wilson, Principle of M-Sport and the Ford WRC team. “There’s been rumours for years and this proves it. How the hell are we supposed to win against that? Let alone he keeps going for as long as his batteries keep going, no wonder you have fangirls lined up 20 deep”

Citroen team bosses expressed surprise.

“A Robot? No, he’s quite clearly human. We reject utterly the accusations of Loeb’s robot status altho the site in question…… ummm…. what was the question again?”

Porn stars have been willing to verify the identity of the robot with many female performers expressing their support and admiration for Loebot. Many comments that are pretty much unprintable but you get the idea.

The FIA will be meeting tomorrow to see the clip in question and Esmerela Jizzmop has been put on standby to clean up afterwards.

I've been looking around for a sporty little convertible type car, something older and a little unique, and despite more sane offerings, I think I've fallen in love with the Ford/Mazda Aussie-built Mercury Capri.

There's just something about the combination of it being kinda quirky, a vaguely ford product, a die-hard owner's club, and a stick-shift turbo convertible that pushes all my bad-car-buying-choice buttons. And there's tons of accessories to boot, it's like a toy car.

The real reason I'm bringing this up is that I was doing some research on it and a Capri fansite had a scan of Consumer Reports reviewing the first US model and they absolutely roasted it.

:drat:

I dug this quote up too:

I still want a green turbo one really badly for some reason :sax:

Bonus content:

I've copped flakfor this int he past from ohter Aussies but I'll say it again - run away. Run far FAR away. This is the worst piece of poo poo to escape Australia since Rupert Murdoch - they are without a doubt one of the worst cars in the last 40 years, Chinese cars included. They dont handle, they dont grip, they fall apart in new and inventive ways, the drop tops are a wretched POS and by any stretch of the imagination need to be thrown into the nearest car shredder and recycled into razor blades to be worth anything.

If anything, those quoted excepts dont do how awful a Capri is justice. Now add on 20+ years of wear and tear and honestly, you would be struggling to find any redemming qualities. Dont do it.

And the hurricane force windfield has grown with the latest EWRC, let alone the storm surge - anything 100kms of the centre is going to be hosed, anything 160kms is going to get a pounding and the centre is projected to go over Key Largo.

Catching up on movies now I'm on holiday...... Annnd watching the DCEU nd othe comic book movies

Man of Steel really isnt as bad as critics claimed. Dour but I think it's actually a pretty drat good movie.
Batman v Superman needed a better editor. There's a good movie lurking in there but it's horribly assembled ATM. Affleck as Batman rules and Wonder Woman was great - I would call it an interesting failure. Better editing choices and a better / longer actual BvS would have gone a loooong way to makign this one be good.
Suicide Squad..... okay that's a dumpster fire. No one is saving that shitpile.
Wonder Woman...... ummmm..... THIS was critically acclaimed? It's a complete by the numbers origin story. There is nothing new here at all... which isnt by itself a problem but when it's not done well, thats a problem. It's not done well or in an interesting way... there's only so much slo-mo you can do before you fall asleep in the action set pieces. Granted, it's not a garbage dumpster fire but it's no movie to be praised either, in reality saved by good character performances. Iron Man 2 level... ie okay and worth watching but not anywhere near as good as critics think.

GOTG2 rewatch.... ummmmm..... you know what, it's also no where near as good as fanboys think either. It's also seriously by the numbers and leaning far too hard on the success of it's original.
Doctor Strange - this is an example of by the numbers but done well. Trippy visuals like I remember, solid story, seen it before in Iron Man, rich douche gets comeuppance,w allows in misery and finds meaning and powers ot save the world blah blah blah. But done quite well. Says enough howwell when an actor I usuually cant stand wins me over.

Next week I'm goign to line up action. John Wick 1 and 2, The Raid 1 and 2, Dredd and Fury Road. Any other action suggestions?

I actually enjoyed this, it was a little strange but Metro City getting hosed up by that gravity smasher thing felt like it was actually a threat and there was ACTUAL DANGER to the humans in the movie. Contrast that with Avengers where NYC gets annihilated and the 2nd where an entire city gets pulled out of the ground and yet no innocents appear to even graze their knees. No weight to it at all. And that's why I appreciated Man of Steel.

Yes agreed. Also MoS really nailed just how powerful a Kryptonian would be on screen.... every punch just loving poo poo up. The sheer destruction of two gods throwing down was depicted so well - Superman2 to me suffers that a few cars get flipped and a tanker explodes buuuuut... not much else. In MoS the entinr goddamn city is being levelled. One punch cuts a building in half and its clear people die. If Superman didnt kill Zod the destruction would be insane and gently caress the neckbeards who were whining about that.

MoS to me was about as realistic onscreen as Superman would actually be let alone how many comic books have Superman blowing apart a city block to stop the bad guy? I think it was true to source and just an all round resonably well thought out film with interesting questions and spectaclar action as well as lowering the suspension of disbelief bar really well. Its a shame Snyder caught so much flak for it because this is an interesting and believable Superman.

The ridiculous prevalence of superhero films these days is proof that Hollywood is just idling on fumes waiting for someone to come round with a fresh idea

The issue is that everyone saw Marvel make more money than God and wanted a piece of that with whatever lovely EU idea they could come up with, without understanding how Marvel got to that point. Hollywood has always been utterly berifit of ideas and risk adverse - right now Marvel are the closest thing to a sure bet for making a movie that makes money. The reason why Nolan gets a huge tub of money to play with is he is also about as close to a surefire bet as any director could be - along with Speilberg his movies make bank and believe it that he wouldnt have gotten to the blank cheque status without The Dark Knight massive success. Whiiiiich also just happns to be arguably the best comic book movie of them all.

James Cameron isnt a sure thing but he's had two movies that have made sooooo much goddamn coin no one cares what he does now.

Now while I said Marvel were the closest thing to a sure bet in Hollywood, there is one way better and moreover has been proven that it cant fail - Star Wars.

If new ideas make money 9 times out of 10, Hollywood would be all over that poo poo. But given how expensive movies can be, risk taking isnt a good idea, least you wipe out the studio. Which has happened more than a few times, a lot of the studio names have been bought over and over again as the owners go bankrupt and have to sell off. Yes it was part of the point - Deadpool had for a comic book movie an absurdly small budget. It shows and they even lampshade it several times - it was a project Reynolds really fought hard to come to fruition in the way it did and the studio gave him relatively nothing to work with and thats why it looks the way it does and a lot of cost trimming went on. No one was expecting Deadpool to make any real money at all, let alone be so remarkably profitable.
