let's brainstorm all the ways that letting Erik Prince's private army take over duties in Afghanistan are actually good

1) war games with business managing mechanics are an under-utilized genre mash, and are sure to get more popular
2) instead of getting blood money from the US government, the bereaved will have to sue Blackwater, Xe Services, Academi for wrongful deaths
3) PR disaster from serial rape and child murder? not a problem for our brave servicemen anymore
4) more bang for the buck. markets are super efficient at delivering goods & services, and bringing a market based solution to warfare is innovative

tiny brain: use of mercenaries is an ethical violation so severe it should constitute a war crime
active brain: using contractors to work logistical duties is efficient, and enables more troops to be combat fighters
neural networked brain: private security organizations can cover duties that would normally distract from the more urgent needs of the military
cosmic brain: thanks to plausible deniability, mercenaries are all reward, no risk

I got this new Afgani coworker who says he used to work with the US-Afghan development agency or whatever. I can never remember the acronym for those guys. Anyway he told a story about going to Tajikstan for vacation and blowing 10,000 USD on three weeks of hookers, booze, and coke. Apparently bribe money goes pretty far up there.

If the history of mercs is any lesson, they're going to be expensive, back-stabby, and going to fold when up against an actual army.

Hiring mercs is like a symptom of a declining empire afaik.

It's less that the Taliban (such as they exist as an organization anymore) are good at kicking rear end and more that you can't win a war with no objectives. There'd probably have been way less human suffering if we had just straight up annexed Iraq and Afghanistan

It's just gonna be a rehash of the Peacewalker plot, only with a cool vintage 00's aesthetic set in Afghanistan.
