I don't think it was a ploy to make her more dependent, at last not consciously. It was just him faking her into thinking that he found a vegan form of KFC when all he did was write "Beyond" on the container. There was nothing indicating he wanted to force her to eat fast food. Her eating it is just a byproduct of him getting to eat it. He was just looking to keep eating KFC. He's all about himself.
