Arsenal have no real intention of winning this competition, have they? Even though it might be their only option for CL football towards the end of this season.

Edit: and Arsenal aren't finishing 5th this year. Probably 6th at the current rate. And didn't Utd basically play fringe/rotational players along with some youth in the group stages? Then play strengthened sides in the knockout phase?

Not really. Zlatan was rested for a couple, but only 2-3 changes were made from the "best XI" for the group stage matches. Mourinho doesn't really do rotation.
