that's what i thought. (almost) nobody is going to use this if it's subject to the same lovely licensing that's making people run away from h.265.

everyone who offered up their patents for royalty free use to the aom in exchange for a codec that they can actually use without having to negotiate terms with two patent pools and a few individual companies and doesn't require royalties on content encoded with it. the h.265 stakeholders have loosened the screws a bit, but h.265 licensing terms are still pretty bad
