Here are some amenities that Peoria has to offer: Good hospitals An adequate private college Minor League baseball Minor League hockey An orchestra An (real) IMax theater and other cheaper movie heaters A (really ugly) museum A couple of planetariums Golf Courses Four play theaters of various sizes An outdoor mall and a less impressive indoor mall A 'super' walmart A Bass Pro Shop (in East Peoria) A Casino (also in East Peoria) A concert arena An 'eventplex' (which is a large music venue that serves alcohol). A boardgame store (FLGS if you're dirty) A wide range of restaurant options including (moderately) upscale, steakhouse, Indian, Lebanese, Vietnamese, Mexican, Sushi, and Chinese. And also less authentic alternatives for some of those, and a diner or two. And basically any fast food you could want. (There's a rumor we might get a Portillo's in 2018.) Basically what I'm trying to say is, Heath posted:Peoria is quiet and boring. Rent is cheap. The food is great and generally cheap. Well, I learned something stupid tonight. My parents, they of the poor voting choices persuasion, received a little newspaper this week. Every single article was about how bad Rauner is, except for the ones about how great Ives is. There's a comparison of gubernatorial candidates, except is only includes Rauner and Ives, so it's obviously a campaign ad. It's produced by an LLC named Local Government Information Services. What a skunky name. Who are they? Well, Local Government Information Services is owned by Upstream ideas, which is owned by Dan Proft. Dan Proft the radio host, Dan Proft the Senior Fellow at IPI, Dan Proft the founder of Liberty Principles PAC. That's right, Dan Proft is leveraging Super PAC funds to write fake newspapers to support Illinois Policy Institute. Also there's like 30 of these dumb websites so I'm sure he's just spinning up more names for newspapers to keep people confused: https://lgis.co/our_publications https://capitolfax.com/2016/10/12/fec-complaint-filed-against-proft-newspapers/ gently caress dark money, and gently caress Dan Proft.

So my media habits don't involve me catching a lot of ads. I was surprised tonight to see an attack ad against McCann. Claiming he's on Madigan's side because he voted against some of Rauner's bills. When of course, the real reason McCann voted against them is because 'Baby cancels clean self, Reason: too insane'. Who the hell cares about McCann anyway? I probably should have been able to guess, but I looked it up anyway. The PAC sponsoring the ad was Economic Freedom Alliance. (Oh, there's the dogwhistle 'freedom', of course.) Hopped over to campaignmoney.com, and it is primarily a lobbying arm for Illinois Manufacturers' Association. Probably a commerce group that loves Rauner because he's so dedicated to destroying unions. I just went to wikipedia to be sure. I was right, but also... "On September 29, 1893, Illinois manufacturers met at the Grand Pacific Hotel to organize in opposition to the Sweatshop Law of 1893 that prohibited child labor and mandated an eight-hour workday. The manufacturers formed the Illinois Manufacturers' Protective Association 'for the purpose of co-operating to test the constitutionality of a recent act of the Legislature of this State limiting the hours of Female Labor.'" Oh, cool, cool, yeah, that fits perfectly in this, the stupidest timeline. DalaranJ fucked around with this message at 06:33 on Oct 7, 2018 |
