copy on write snapshots are great. if you've got a dataset that's huge and constantly changing, you can maintain multiple branches with minimal extra storage. much more practical and faster to deal with than having multiple copies of few hundred gigs each.

oracle lost a boat race

now they are butt hurt because they dont want to race their dumb boat in the mighty nation of new zealand

also nz changed their boat design to some non-zfs design

in killing Solaris did Oracle lay off everyone involved with ZFS?

sun open sourced it before oracle bought them. but if you use it in a product that makes real money oracle lawyers will show up at your door and ask for patent payments.

I suggest using ReiserFS, the file system from Hans Reiser, who murdered his wife.

btrfs convert now supports reiserfs, so you can switch to a non-murder fs without format

that's not ntfs tho. that's the software raid controller which sits below ntfs.

You see, but you do not observe.

I mean reiserFS seemed very cool and interesting at the time, too bad about the murders, but really what's a little murder if you got a good fs out of it ?

did Microsoft ever come out with their WindowsFS thing

almost every problem with zfs can be resolved by not doing it wrong

also don't use dedup because it eats too much memory and it's probably gonna get rewritten
