Jim's now a Blind Cave Salamander!

Cuphead just came out today. A co-op run and gun game with art influenced from 30's cartoons and tons of tough bosses, it's pretty unique. Awesome music and tons of great bosses. I just wrapped up in around 10 hours, and psyched to go back in to start acing levels. Oozes personality and quality, and apparently they might release more bosses as future DLC.

also a Mangosteen reference for some reason.

Just got stuck on this myself. I think only actual attacks count, so it might be possible to use the charm that regenerates super along with a super attack on it. I notice completing a level in expert mode fills the cup on the flag in gold, I know there's a reward for acing everything and a reward for earning P's on all the Run and Gun levels, is there something for completing expert mode?

Also, is it possible to find the fourth barbershop member?

Only the invincibility super works for P. You've gotta parry from a nearby mushroom.

yeah you need to bait a parryable spore cloud out over the cliff and use it to bounce and dash over the maker, but you basically have to have invincibility on while you're doing it or an acorn will just smash right into your face

i'm a little annoyed because i thought of it on my own but just couldn't get it to work without braining myself on the acorn so i thought i must be doing it wrong

Just beat the frog twins and I want to play this game more but I'm trying to pace myself. The flight level was phenomenal.

I haven't enjoyed a super challenging game since Bloodborne (I haven't opened DS3 yet :ohdear:) so this is welcome.

I just beat four levels in world 2 on PC and the game didn't save my progress. I have to redo all four of those levels. This game is great, but also gently caress this game?

Incidentally, anyone have progress roughly midway through world 2 they don't mind sharing?

Just because Liquor's dead, doesn't mean you can just roll this bitch all over town with "The Freedoms."
Just finished the game, total time coming in at five hours. Kind of short but it's all incredible to play even though I didn't like the platforming levels as much as the bosses. Expert should be a good challenge since regular was already really difficult.

I got to say I really recommend remapping the shoot to right trigger and the dash to left trigger. It makes the game a lot more manageable.

Hell yeah, I was going to recommend people map Dash to LT. Really such an improvement since its awkward to stop attacking to hit Y for dash I didn't think about putting Shoot to RT but I considered putting the Ex attack on RT. Maybe I'll try that

I just beat all the stages on normal difficulty. Just trying to do some extras, and now I can't find one hidden coin on the world map anywhere. Guessing no one has made a complete list of them at all?

Edit: Nevermind, I missed the one behind the green trailer in world 2.

I HATE THAT HEDGEHOG, BROTHER!
I FINALLY beat the clown boss. That's the only boss so far that I felt is kind of bullshit because there's SO much RNG in that fight, so much of that fight isn't consistent at all. The roller coaster never comes at the same time, the balloon dogs patterns aren't consistent, the horse attacks are completely random on top of having to deal with the train (and there's not a ton you can do if the train comes at just the right time that you either get hit by the train or hit by the horseshoes), even the dumb back and forth he does at the start he sometimes will pull way more forward than normal or charge at you way sooner than normal. I wasn't a fan of that fight at all. My final attempt I made it to the last phase with all my health and I didn't feel like that happened cause of skill. It felt like it happened because I just got lucky with the train and the dogs and stuff. So that fight didn't feel like gently caress YES like the others it felt "thank god that's finally over"

Contrast that with the dessert princess fight, which i LOVED. The minions that come out are random, but the tactics they used all have a mostly set pattern so once you figure them all out it's pretty simple. The hardest part is the final phase with avoiding the head, and you just have to play it safe and dash around the head. I came back the next morning and one shot the genie too

I'm on the bird boss now and while I love this fight, the final phase goes on FOREVER. I haven't beaten it yet cause I keep making dumb mistakes on the final phase but good lord it never ends!

The art in this game is SO charming. You will absolutely die or get hurt in fights because you'll want to just look at the details in the animation or the background. I love all the dumb nonsensical old style animation stuff they do, like the last phase of the bird fight when his head turns into a trash can and he starts barfing up garbage (????)

edit: The platformer sections are bad though, which I'm disappointed in because I love platformers. The boss fights have better designed platforming tbh

^^^^EDIT: princess is cool, but gently caress that jawbreaker

I find myself resetting a lot when I take a hit early on. I also die a lot, so I'm probably averaging 15-20 tries on everything. I'm in World 2 and getting completely shut down. Cannot for the life of me get past Beppi the Clown's second phase, but I thought the genie was impossible too until I got better. 135 deaths so far. I'm having a good time!

At the end of world 2 (just the dragon left) playing co-op with my wife. Game is quite hard and my wife doesn't play platformers like I do so I end up soloing the last phase or two. It seems like co-op makes things take more hits to phase, but I'm not sure because a lot of tequila was also involved.

Game is really beautiful and yeah the end of bird fight is hilarious. Most "gently caress yeah!" moment was killing that dumb clown. It's also clear this game was designed on its boss fights cuz the run and gun levels are kind of lame and paced strangely. But you need them coins.

My kingdom for a double jump!

Is there a way to remove items you equipped? I bought the dashing makes you invincible one and even saw that it said "invisible" but figured it was either at typo or you'd be seethrough. Instead you just CAN'T see Cuphead for a second. That fucks me up too much, but now i can't unequip it?? I want the default dash back :(

Two days ago I hit a wall on the frog bros third phase, and the flower boss period. I got some time to play last night for like 15 minutes before bed tired as gently caress and I got em both. This game.

I really like the platform sections. Like the part of the acorn barrage hallway in the tree at the start in the level with the wasp boss, where despite all instincts if you just run most of them will miss you completely.

Now the candy Baroness third phase(?) When her castle starts to come after you is my current challenge.

My advice is don't rush it. Take your time, if you aren't hitting her it's okay, just do your best to avoid the head. My big mistake was trying to be hitting her constantly while also avoiding her head when I should've been looking for openings to do it.

I'm taking a break from the bird and have been attempting the dragon. This fight as awesome, but man do I keep making the simplest mistakes. You have to REALLY pay attention to the fire guys in the second phase because they'll ruin your whole day. I'm getting close with both of these bosses though. Aside from the clown boss I already mentioned I love how it feels like I'm not winning just by dumb mistakes I'm making

The charge shot does possibly the most damage in the game, it really makes a lot of bosses much faster and really works perfectly on a lot of the bosses (terrible for stages though)

you can equip another trinket in its place but i don't know if you can remove it if you don't have something to swap in

but my advice is to get used to the distance you move while dashing and learn to love the smoke dash because being able to pass through bullets/enemies with impunity is a game changing ability and i can't ever see myself using another trinket. your rollercoaster boss woes would probably be alleviated by using it.

I'm stuck on the Dragon, everything else has maybe taken me 15 tries max but this dude probably has me at 50 deaths. This fight is complete RNG bullshit for so many reasons, the clouds can completely gently caress you if there's a large enough gap in them during the first fight. There's no difference when he's telegraphing a single or double fireball in the first part as well which is pretty lovely. The second part turns into a poo poo show because he's behind you can you're almost forced to use the boomerang shot to hit him consistently but even then half of the clouds will place you high enough where your shots won't even hit. The final phase can go suck a loving dick though because hitting his shots with yours causes them to explode into four smaller shots and trying to manage your spacing with the RNG clouds and those stupid loving fireballs is dumb.

If you can use the charge shot. It makes the last part absolutely trivial because your not going to be accidentally setting off those exploding shots

Yeah, besides maybe the autoparry trinket if you're trying to get S ranks the smoke bomb is easily the most useful one. Especially makes the roulette wheel miniboss in the casino basically a free stage since you can ignore the entire point of the fight and just dash through her.

I'm curious, just how much? Like outright or is it kind of like the x-files theme in Okami, where yeah, it's there, but its more a coincidence.

Still, it could be an homage, I'll keep my ear open when I get to that stage.
