Why don't you actually look at the ships on screen with your eyeballs? You don't need a supplementary book to see the differences between the OT and ST X-Wings.

The only thing that ever stood out to me while watching the movies was that the that the new X-Wings have split engines instead of four whole ones, and the problem there is that it looks really ugly compared to the OT design.

The engine design is also fundamentally different from what they ended up with in TFA, because they took the open vent half-engines of the concept art and combined it with the turbine style front that the OT X-wings used. It looks like someone haphazardly cannibalized portions of the old concept art for the new design without actually thinking about what the differences mean for the design.

Meaning he should've killed Kylo Ren and all those other guys with this lightsaber. Star Wars fans want Luke to be Jabba's Palace Luke from RotJ, not post-Throne Room Luke.

Really? You think people remember Luke as some sort of dark badass and not the idealistic hero who won the throne room encounter by throwing his lightsaber down and refusing to accept that his father was beyond saving?

People struggle to understand TLJ Luke because ROTJ did a much better job of selling them on its happy ending than the sequels have done on selling the new universe as the natural extension of what came before. TLJ Luke makes sense in the context that he's been crushed by the meaninglessness of his victory in the throne room, but there's not enough context for that failure because nobody understands what the gently caress happened in the intervening 30 years.
