It's impressive how this show can juggle being funny, having great musical scenes, and still get dark with Rebecca's progressively more destructive streak.

I can't believe that episode ended there. Next week can't come fast enough.

drat that was good. Also I'm noticing that the songs have kind of gone from riffing on the style of certain genres/artists to straight up just changing the lyrics of existing songs.

This way darker way faster then I expected. It really seems like Racheal Bloom either knew someone who had the same kind of breakdown/burned it to the ground or someone on the writing staff did. Even for the occasional humor it still made it clear that Rebecca was shredding her life and rejecting the genuine attempts of people who love her to try and help and tell her they still care about her. Rock bottom started 30 seconds into the episode, and somehow they just kept digging deeper and finding more ways for Rebecca to crack.

The Greg ship didn't just set sail, it crashed onto the reef and sank to the bottom of the ocean and then exploded.

Man, Valencia is really kinda cool. She took in stride when Paula casually admitted implanting a tracking device into her shoulder. I also really liked how the characters tried to improve themselves after hearing Rebecca's purposely hurtful, but kinda true words. Heather straight up admitted it, Darryl had a serious talk and Paula decided to have some family time. I guess Valencia didn't quit her job and have a real wedding, but that's kind of a hard task.

It's extremely weird to me that Darryl's actual daughter, to whom he is extremely attached, has left the show. Like okay, Josh doesn't want a kid, but you have a daughter. You and your loving boyfriend could raise her together. It's not like Darryl is going to have to live his life without children. It doesn't solve the conflict, but it would be nice if they at least mentioned her. If she existed in any way whatsoever. I assume they can't get the actress anymore.

Tiggum posted:Yeah, I was thinking this. Darryl, you already have a child. Like, there's still room to create drama there with the idea that maybe you and White Josh don't want the same things, but there's not the "I want kids and you don't" thing because you already have a daughter. But he doesn't have a daughter with him. It's stupid but I kinda get it. He wants him to experience the "joy" of parenting.

Josh can, he can raise the daughter Darryl already has. My theory is she died and all the characters are in a denial so deep they can't talk about it.

FactsAreUseless posted:Josh can, he can raise the daughter Darryl already has. If he doesn't want to have kids with Darryl why would he want to raise Darryl's existing kids? (Not saying he'd purposefully want to not help with her upbringing or anything but surely a big part of not wanting kids is not wanting to raise kids).

That was amazingly dark, knew we were in for a good one when they didn't have opening credits. Also spotted a butter poster in the background, I miss those more common recurring elements from the first season.
