I felt like it was an okay place to stop since it was all setup for season 2, which will definitely happen because the universe is just.  Looking at the manga again, it's crazy how different it is visually from the show and how poorly-suited its almost sketchy style is to CG, yet somehow both are beautiful and give the same feeling in the end.
