I read a very tiny portion of the manga since that cliffhanger ending was killing me and learned a thing about the swords, don't read this if you don't want spoilers about future characters I guess: There is a gem who is a blacksmith; they make the swords.

I think those are all fairly distinct and what is interesting about them is the economy of detail. They're minimalistic and elegant, not generic. Reminds me a bit of Asumiko Nakamura and how she stylizes and simplifies figures.

To me "generic" implies that they look like some standard brandless product, not really similarity within the artist's own work. Like, those porn games with the really bland anime girls are generic, and to apply that here is kind of ignorant imo.

re: the shorts What their outfits remind me of the most are clothes young boys traditionally wore (or still wear as school uniforms) -- shorts, jacket & tie, tall socks, loafers. Being all black does give it a funerary feeling. Their outfit is also designed like a romper which up until recently was a child's outfit. They're essentially dressed like children, which makes sense if you think about their ages in a geologic sense -- a few hundred years is like nothing to a rock.

it didn't sound like Sensei thought they were sentient Sensei told Phos to calm his heart because the floes were reflecting the uncertainty/fears he had, and all the arm stuff follows directly from Antarc saying how great it would be if Phos had arms to match his legs. Phos is kind of an unreliable narrator there since the ice may or may not have been giving him directions vs just reflecting & amplifying thoughts he already had.

Phos had their face in the bowl of luminescent stuff which I assumed was supplementing the lack of sunlight so it probably just absorbs through their surface powder or not. I thought the powder was to prevent/protect from erosion from the air and water and etc. For instance when the gems go into the water the powder is protecting them from the salt & the resin just keeps the powder from washing off.

How much was the alloy and how much was just being alone and having all of that responsibility (and guilt) to deal with. Being around the others was good for Phos. Not to make a corny pun but the alloy did seem to give them more uh...gravity though.

Difference in appearance could simply be from age & content. Phos got bigger with the addition of the alloy so who knows what all Sensei is made of to be that much larger, and how long it took for them to form.

I'm not seeing where Sensei is "flesh" at all, he's still a rock -- hard enough to break Jade's hand just by being tapped, we've already seen him smash into two walls while sleeping and leave craters, etc.
