It seems like there's a lot of "Why does this children's cartoon look like it's for children?!  " going on from what I can see. I'm still hoping for an outsized alien pilot at some point too, mostly because I love the idea of a Gamorrean pilot like "Piggy" Sabinring from the Wraith Squadron books. Someone who barely fits in the cockpit and really has no business being there intellectually and/or socially. The Rogue Squad books had an alien called Hohass "Runt" Ekwaash who was bigger than most humans and had to squeeze in to a cockpit, which he could only manage because he was diminutive by his species standards. I just like that kind of stuff. An extra-small pilot like an Ewok using prosthetics to reach the controls would be cool too. Something else the X-Wing books made fun of and which your comment might be a reference to. In which case, "Yub, Yub".

And yeah, him and Piggy are some of the best characters

This looks like Wacky Racers meets Starwars which is fine I guess. I just have no clue what this show is supposed to be about. They sit around and race on a station and just wait for Tie fighters to show up?

The aces hang around to protect the station and race to kill time. The FO will probably cause trouble, or pirates. Given the dad of the young ace girl looks to be a Republic officer, its probably aligned with the Republic which gives it more than enough juice for FO conflict to occur.

They've mentioned espionage being a focus of the series a few times, so it could be a neutral station that's used by both factions, and they're trying to supply information about the FO to the Republic without being found out. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a subplot about a double agent on the team, who everyone suspects is the TIE pilot but turns out to be the guy who only cares about money.

Yes, Gwendoline Christie was listed as part of the voice cast in that first press release. Shuttle in the trailer is probably carrying this dude, though.

I’d guess it’s Phasma in the shuttle, although I don’t think it’d be crazy for Kylo Ren to appear at some point. The most recent video revealed that the red-armored trooper isn’t Cardinal, so I doubt he’ll be showing up.
