Yeah, I snapped one lad completely when trying to assemble them. Had to get creative with the repair job there. Since then I've had to glue Varklav's candle arm a few times after I snapped it when I dropped it onto some carpet and it got tangled.

Really recommend shortening the pegs and/or widening the holes when assembling push-fit stuff.

Yeah his sword came pre-broken off and the candle arm went flying when I clipped him from the sprue. An easy enough fix with some plastic glue, he's solid now. Unfotrunately, my Briar Queen was broken near the base in a strange way, almost cut in half at a thick section, and I had to use plastic glue and a vise to bend that part back together overnight and have it hold. Probably a failing of the mold, since I later discovered that she has no lower jaw, either. I'm not bothered by the repairs, or the jawless look even, since the rest went together well enough.

I played through the tutorial and had fun, though it seems stacked for the space marines I MEAN STORMCAST ETERNALS a bit. We then covered the rules for a regular game, and plan on playing soon. I'm still plotting on how to paint these teams up with the least effort possible as well.

Both warbands take pretty well to contrast paints. That's fast and low effort for a pretty good result.

I was lucky enough that my ghosts were broken in the box, so GW sent me a replacement sprue. So now I have a few sparea for when something breaks.

Poorly. I based them white and then did a thinned down Nihilakh Oxide. I drybrushed them with Celestra Gray and then Grey Seer, and then realized that the models have extremely bad gaps and mold lines in odd places. :( I tried to clean those up as best I could, but there are a lot of rough edges present. Also, midway through, I got some makeup brushes and found that drybrushing is vastly improved with them.

I was kind of experimenting, but this is what I finished up with:

Base white
Thinned Nihilakh Oxide (probably around 50/50?)
Drybrush Celestra Gray (heavier at the head, lighter as I moved down)
Drybrush Grey Seer (heavier at the head, lighter as I moved down)
Drybrush white (you guessed it - heavier at the head, lighter as I moved down)

Corsets were Snakebite Leather Contrast, bases were various gray, brown, green, and red Contrasts.

Having the makeup brushes is a great help, as it's a much finer, softer application that doesn't look nearly as heavy handed. I don't think the banshees came out great, but I think they worked for experimentation purposes. They'll certainly work just fine for Underworlds.

Pulling them from sale. I'm with you regarding the need to cycle things before they have to manage a fuckton of interactions, but doing so and pulling the minis from sale without any forewarning is not great.

It really is amazing how many things GW has produced that you can't buy any more. Like I don't think Warcry or most of their specialist games will be available in 5 years, and with blood bowl even though there will always be fans of that, they only sell the latest 2 pitches, all the other ones are gone forever.

What are the contents of the Barnes & Nobles exclusive box? Any new cards, or just a repacking of existing stuff?

berzerkmonkey
Jul 23, 2003
Two new warbands - Mournflight (etb banshees) and etb Stormcast whose name escapes me at the moment. Two warband specific decks, no universal cards. Both are usable in standard Underworlds play. A one-piece board, and random event cards that are specific to Dreadfane.

I'm using the Mournflight in a local tourney using only warband specific cards, and they are a very hard hitting force. I went three for three tonight, beating my opponents handily. There are a lot of dual objective cards in the set, so it can be tough to pull some things off, but these ghosts hit like a truck.

The warbands from the starter sets have only been released on their own when a new starter was released, so I wouldn't could on seeing them separately before season 4. They'll probably release a box with just the figures pretty soon, but only as available to order.
Wolfriders and Flesh Eaters might be showing up very soon, I think the first warbands showed up less than a month after the core in the Nightvault cycle.

I’ve got the box but haven’t read the rules yet due to shiny miniatures. What’s the new rule?

Edit: Just finished building my Kurnouthi minis. I was already into them from the studio pics but they are even nicer in person. I don’t like the studio paint job really, excited to get to work on them. Planning to do them with a pale grey skin tone, something a bit less human-looking than the very fleshy style of the studio scheme.

Most of the new rules involve adding keywords that other cards play off, and a few existing rules got folded under keywords too. (E.g. Score Immediately objectives are now covered by the "surge" keyword.)

Two such keywords are "hunter" and "quarry". Some heroes have the "hunter" keyword automatically, and there are cards that give other heroes Hunter status. It doesn't do anything on its own, but a lot of other cards have boosted effects when used to buff hunters, or used against quarry.
