I tried stage manager on my MacBook Air and it was inscrutable

Strangelet Wave posted:yeah I’m gonna round that down to “hidden” ah well, i'm using it on a 5th gen ipad air lol. maybe that's why it runs like dogshit i don't think you can save a certain window arrangement, but honestly if i don't absolutely need its functionality (i.e. multitasking between two ostensibly fullscreen-only apps) i never enable it, it's hands down the worst ui apple has ever come up with and is using it is imo just an exercise in extreme frustration. so idk what happens if you e.g. frequently use a certain configuration or leave it enabled across reboots/locks etc. but i doubt that'd save anything i just checked if you might be able to make a shortcut that opens and rearranges the windows for you and it doesn't seem like they have that functionality, either, although you can enable stage manager and open apps, so maybe there's some roundabout way

Beeftweeter posted:the window splitting menu isn't quite hidden, it's the three sometimes not-very-visible dots at the top (always centered). if there's only one app/view open it'll just have one at the top, but each split window gets their own, so subsequent menus are at the top center of their view iirc only the ones with m-series socs have stage manager. there was a big stink when the m1 ipad air initially wasn't supported for it while the m1 ipad pro was. apple ended up adding it to the air anyway what's really dumb is that stage manager exists in macos too, like anyone would want to use that poo poo on a desktop or laptop

i use full-screening and spaces really heavily and am always surprised to hear that other people just don’t. only complaint i have is that some apps drop back to windowed mode too easily and end up get reordered and undermining my muscle memory

i'd rather the external display, since it's a perfectly fine general browser device. mirroring makes everything stupid gigantic and stage manager makes things to small and chunky on the 11" to me

the coolest thing about the airport EXTREME is that some of them had integrated modems and you could set them up as dialup servers, enabling you to phone into your home network

another problem with the analogy is that cars and boats are not directly comparable in functionality beyond "carries passengers" where the vision pro and other vr sets basically do the same thing except "carries porn"
