I never fought GU introduced Deviants so I was actually hoping you'd fight Malfestio but I am glad you started with Snowbaron since I had hinted at it during our multicat shenanigans while we were fighting regular Lagombi.

And I also farmed Hellblade before I became a pirate.

Slight delay on this one because I had some technical difficulties. These are the last monsters we have available in the single player! We have reached a milestone! I could end the LP at any point now, but there's still things I want to show off. It'll be mostly hub stuff, so I hope you like multiplayer shenanigans!

Not much to say about the metal Raths since while they are available as Monsties in the post game of Stories, their abilities are the same as base Rathalos and Rathian so it's just a palette swap and they're a bit of a pain to get.

In Iceborne these two, Scarred Yian Garuga and Brute Tigrex (who I only name drop cause he's not in Generations (Ultimate) though he does appear in Stories with the same abilities as base Tigrex) are tied to the Guiding Lands where they can be found after increasing the Level of the original four GL regions to six which in turn requires Master Rank 69:
Scarred Yian Garuga - Ancient Forest
Brute Tigrex - Rotted Vale
Gold Rathian - Wildspire Waste
Silver Rathalos - Coral Highlands

You can also fight them in event quests as well which is probably more optimal if you don't want to deal with the Guiding Lands, which I would not blame you for since it is a pain and Gold's armor is geared around Divine Blessing with the two piece bonus even being Divine Blessing Secret making it good for survival sets.

"Will it Cat?" Official Meownsterpawdia Part 11

OK this is it, the LAST* Meownsterpawdia! These are the last of the monsters you can fight in the single-player, and they are NOT easy. If you can beat these, you can truly consider yourself an Elite Hunter! (And yes, they all cat!)

*May or may not be the last, depending on how I want to handle Certain Monsters.

You know the drill by now: click on a monster's name to check out its Monster Hunter Wiki page.

U= Uncommon
R= Rare
S= Stupidly rare

Hey, heads up. I'm about to unleash my rage.

This wasn't mentioned in the video, but Rajang straight up hunts and eats the horns of Kirin. It's part of how it gets it's electric ability, and shows that while Rajang isn't an Elder Dragon, he can still stand toe to toe with one.

Chimera-gui
Mar 20, 2014
Iceborne actually shows Rajang breaking Kirin's horn off and eating it not only as a turf war that can trigger whenever the two monsters are on same map together but it's actually shown as Rajang's intro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvZrJLjypv0

This isn't just for show either, the game straight up registers that Kirin's horn has been broken when Rajang snaps it off to eat it.

As a reminder regarding traps: Un-enraged, it will destroy pitfall traps and and can be caught by shock traps but while enraged it get caught by pitfall traps and destroy shock traps with the red armed, fully enraged state having a special animation in Iceborne for this involving Rajang ripping the trap off the ground and crushing it in its hands.

And yes, Furious Rajang's tail is broken by default and it is theorized that its power is unstable due to the lost of said tail hence why its hair is usually golden in color even when not enraged. The broken tail is more evident in the Iceborne model:

I do like Hellblade's design. Also a weird quirk regarding cutting Glavenus's tail in Iceborne is that you can only cut it while it's heated and speaking of, Glavenus Fire Orb is equivalent to the Glavenus Mantle.

Since there's not a lot to else to say on GU, I will say Rise is bringing back the Scraps system for both Palico and Palamute armor.

Happy New Year cat friends! I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays.

Real quick status update. Liquidypoo should be available to record with us again this month, but I will be (hopefully) taking a vacation mid-month for my birthday. Assuming all that goes according to plan, we're looking at updates resuming at the end of the month.

And this is just an aside, but you know something I'm really looking forward to with Monster Hunter Rise? Scaled multiplayer! If this game did that, I coulda finished the dang LP myself months ago! :argh: But even I, with all my skills, am not nearly good enough to solo the likes of the G-Rank superbosses. Some people can do that. I am not one of them.

EDIT:

Oh right, I know I mentioned Bloodbath, but I'm not sure I addressed why we haven't done him yet. The upper level Deviants, and Bloodbath, are gated behind HR13. HR13 is unlocked by the "final" boss of G-rank. (Last story boss, basically). So Silegna is kind of stuck there. We can't even level him up any more because the highest Prowler level cap is also gated by HR13. Ostensibly, doing the last Prowler Quest "Meownster Hunter Ultimate" also uncaps your Prowler level... but guess what? That quest is... also gated by HR13. Most useless Prowler Quest? YUP!

Hey, heads up. I'm about to unleash my rage.

After this, we did some quests to level my Cat some more, and did Meownster Hunter Ultimate out of spite. It turns out that Ahtal-Ka does not uncap the Palico Level, but Meownster Hunter Ultimate does, making it not the most useless Prowler Quest to exist.

Also, Ahtal Ka is based off the Devil's Flower Mantis, with some Egyptian flavor added. It specifically is reminiscent of a Sphinx.

The first non-Elder Dragon final boss (not counting the Fated Four which are more mid tier) in the mainline series and the only Elder Dragon-Level Neopteron, Ahtal-Ka has a reputation of destroying and raiding fortresses for their equipment in order to build herself a giant mobile home, Ahtal-Neset (Ahtal Nesto in Japanese) also called the Empress's Throne, allowing her to wander from place to place safely without having to fear potential threats:

In ancient times Ahtal-Ka just used natural materials to build her nest, using the best ones to make Ahtal-Neset. She is obsessed with making it as perfect as possible hence why once she found that humans had better materials, she started invading settlements:

From a game development standpoint, the idea behind Ahtal-Neset came from how human influence caused the behavior of animals to change like such as how some crows now use man-made objects like hangars to build their nest rather than natural materials.

It's also worth noting that male Ahtal-Ka are golden in color, while females are born brown in color. By eating a large number of males however, a female Ahtal-Ka can become golden in color and the more males a female Ahtal-Ka eats the brighter gold she'll be.

"Will it Cat?" Official Meownsterpawdia: Meet the Deviants part 1

All right. These next two Meownsterpawdia entries will focus on an odd class of monsters unique to Generations and Generations Ultimate: the Deviants! We didn't cover Deviants a whole lot in the LP because they're... a bit weird and special? And also they're kind of a pain in the rear end. Plus they're all tuned for multiplayer and this was mostly a single-player focused LP.

Here's the skinny on Deviants. To hunt them, you need Special Permits. You can earn these from the Courier for doing quests, buy them with Points from Neko (means "cat"), or buy them with Horns Coins at the Hunter's Pub. The quests themselves unlock by clearing certain quests in the hub. In Generations Ultimate, you unlock the G-Rank fights for any of the original Deviants by fighting their regular version in G-Rank. So, to unlock G-Rank Dreadking Rathalos, just fight a G-Rank Rathalos.

Deviant quests come in several levels. For the Deviants that were in base Generations, there are 15 (actually 16) levels. Level 1-3 is low* rank, 4-10 is high rank, and G1-G5 is G-rank. Each level has its own set of cat equipment. The new GU exclusive Deviants only have the 5 (actually 6) G-rank levels. You have to clear each level before you unlock the next one. Oh and Deviant quests function like Urgent Quests: only the host gets credit for clearing it. That's always fun.

*Not necessarily Low Rank, just slightly easier.

Except that's not all. Once you beat the G5 version of a Deviant, and reach HR 100, you unlock the super duper special EX level of that Deviant. EX Deviants are meaner, hit harder, and they're always Gold Crown in size. If you manage to beat them, you unlock the ability to Fuse their armor. Oh, and also a lot of them have best in class cat weapons for their element or status, so HAVE FUN. Fortunately, if you're only after their cat gear, you don't necessarily have to fight the EX Deviant (unless you want to Fuse their armor, that is). Beating level G4 unlocks the ability to craft the EX cat gear. G3 and up have a chance of dropping the bit you need to craft "Perfect" (EX) scraps of that Deviant. This is listed under "EX Loot" for each Deviant.

Of course, the real hellgrind with Deviants happens when you're after their human equipment. Each Deviant fight drops tickets in the quest rewards. You always get two of that level, with a chance of getting more. Each level also has a chance to give you tickets for the levels below it. (So, a level 10 Deviant fight will guarantee you two lv 10 tickets, and has a chance to give you additional tickets for levels 1-10.) Tickets are needed to forge the armor and weapons of that Deviant. Each piece of armor, and each weapon, takes one ticket, in addition to the usual crafting mats. Except you also upgrade armor and weapons, yeah? Well each upgrade also takes one ticket. :v: And you might actually want Deviant armor, because a lot of them have really good skills! I did mention before that the hellgrind is real!

Refer to the linked Kiranico page for quest loot.

For drops, I'm going to truncate things. Deviant monsters have several different loot tables, depending on which level you're fighting. "Low" Rank (levels 1-3) is one table; High and G-Rank both have three. So, that's 7 loot tables in total. To make matters worse, the online resources I use are incomplete for Deviants. For a complete and accurate list of loot, please refer to MHGU DB or Ping's Dex (Mirror). But the important part is you get the EX Deviant loot from level G3 and up. Remember that!

Deviant stuff

If I may jump in with a small note from my own playthrough just recently. Going through High-rank, I had mostly kept to the key quests, only really doing one or two other quests outside of those to unlock various hunter arts, and so I had only really unlocked 3-4 deviants. Upon defeating high-rank Nakarkos and unlocking G-rank, all of the other Generations deviants became unlocked as well, so if you want to wait until G-rank weapons and armor start becoming available before going deviant hunting, apparently that is something the programmers thought of, and is totally one way to go about things.

In any case, I definitely appreciate the work that's gone into the Let's Play, especially the breakdowns of the various support biases for both Prowlers and Palicos. It's definitely helped me in my own solo climb to G-rank before Rise comes out, and I hope you keep hunting in the new game as well (even if Prowlers aren't returning).

Well done on beating Fatalis! Cats rules, palamutes are neat but not as cool!

Fatalis is legit my favorite fight in Iceborne, you can go in with the best gear in the game and still need to learn its move set, all its tells and have a game plan for breaking the head at least once. I'd say it's the only "git gud" fight in the game and is drat fun! The reward is well worth it too.

The Legend of the Black Dragon posted:

Hasn't there been a song stuck in your head? A song sung by children all across the land? A song with soul, sung diligently in the streets and in the alleys? What is that song?

'The legend of death,
death by a giant wyvern
has been revived'
It is 'The Legend of the Black Dragon'! Everyone should know it, as it is based on a famous fairy tale!

However, I think the fact that everyone is singing this song is actually a sign. They say children are always first to foretell the changing of the world. They are said to have a special sense for these kinds of things.

I have gathered as much information as I could from the corners of this world, and I have told those who should be told. However, no one believes me. That is why I have begged for a few pages in Hunting Life explain the Legend to all who care to learn.

'The Legend of the Black Dragon' is said to exist everywhere, and while there are changes in the lyrics depending on location, the content of the song is the same. So please understand that the lyrics printed below are representative of the song as I know it. The lyrics may be different where you are located.

When the world is full of wyverns, the legend is revived
Meat is eaten, Bone is crunched and blood is sucked up dry
He burns the earth and melts through iron
He boils the rivers and mows down trees
He awakens the winds and lights an inferno
He is called Fatalis, the wyvern of destiny
He is called Fatalis, the wyvern of destruction
Call for help, run for your lives
And don't forget to pray to the skies
He is called Fatalis, the wyvern of destiny
He is called Fatalis, the wyvern of destruction
Fatalis, Fatalis, Heaven and Earth are yours
Fatalis, Fatalis, Heaven and Earth are yours

The original Black Dragon and easily the hardest monster in all of Iceborne, Fatalis was actually added due to fan demand. In addition to hitting hard, it has a super attack that he does five times over the course of the fight in which he flies high into the air and exhales a fan of fire that will kill you unless you either hide in one of the two safe zones provided to protect against the first two super attacks or get under his shadow during the last three.

After the second super attack, he goes into a state where his fire attacks will be even more dangerous unless you've broken at least one of his horns. During this state he is able to press hunters against his chest, partially melting their armor to the point they get stuck to him until he rips them off and tosses them to the ground.

What is most disturbing about Fatalis however is that it is the only monster that the Hunter's Guild considers evil due to Fatalis being extremely hostile towards all living things to the point that all monsters are said to try to avoid Fatalis at all costs, leading to some leaving areas altogether simply to avoid it with it being said to have an especially unfathomable hatred of humankind.

In fact it is said that Fatalis melts the remains of fallen Hunters together and wears them as armor, a practice that can only be described as a mockery of how hunters use monster parts for equipment while its fiery breath is fabled to have reduced a kingdom to ashes within a single night. The scariest part about this legend however is that its body shows signs of possible regenerative powers.

One thing that all the legends share about Fatalis is its equipment which are reported exhibiting signs that seem to suggest that Fatalis is still alive in some form.

Hunters who have worn the Fatalis's armor are reported having terrible nightmares, unsettling strength, and a feeling as if they were being possessed by something. They also report feeling a familiar pulse coming from the armor, a feeling as if their legs were taken from them. With some hunters wearing the armor of the Black Flame, they report feeling as if their body was taken over while they were unconscious. They are even known to disappear mysteriously without a trace or die if the armor is worn for too long.

In Pokke Village, a giant black blade embedded in the ice is known to regenerate days after being mined once. Some weapons, when held, have hideous abyssal screams coming from them while others even have a thirst for blood. Iceborne's Palico armor is even modeled after Fatalis itself with a tiny hunter is its weapon:

Its armor is also the strongest in the game, allowing hunters to equip the highest level decorations available on top of some decent stats and its weapons are considerably powerful. Perhaps a small consolation for the price of turning this dragon into armor and weapons.

A giant dragon that has only been rarely sighted. It periodically prowls close to inhabited areas, and the damage it causes is comparable to that wreaked by a natural disaster. Its habits are a mystery, and no one knows why it occasionally wanders. The Guild has built defensive barricades where they appear, but to what effect.

Two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight and barbecue your own drumsticks!

"Will it Cat?" Best in Cats: the Purrfect Equipment for your Prowlers

Hello again, viewers! Today we're covering a special topic. We've discussed purrfect Support Moves and skills for your intrepid Prowlers, and now it's time to talk about equipment! I mentioned what kind of weapon each of the Support Biases wants in my Prowlers and Mew segments: melee or ranged focused, blunt or cutting, elemental or status, etc. but now we'll talk specifics!

In general, your best in class weapons are going to come from the EX Deviant monsters, with a few that come from Hyper G-rank monsters, or G-rank Elder Dragons. Always consider the Deviant version of a weapon, even if the damage is a bit lower, because all Deviant weapons give you faster Support Move Gauge gain. NB: beating the G4 level of Deviants unlocks the ability to craft their EX cat equipment. Level G3 and up of the Deviant has a chance to drop the EX bits, from which you can make "Perfect" Scraps of that Deviant. You might not necessarily have to actually fight the EX Deviants if you don't want to! (Unless you want to Fuse their armor...)

For Ranged-Focused Cats

The ranged-focused Support Biases are... most of them: Defense, Support, Bombing, Healing, Gathering and optionally Fighting. Generally all these support biases will prefer to use a blunt weapons, unless you really need a tail cut for some reason. You can either go with a general purpose status weapon, or pick a weapon that hits a monster's weakness. Up to you!

For pure raw damage go with the F Silverwind Star XX made from Silverwind Nargacuga

OR the F Bloodbath Hammer from Bloodbath Diablos.

Note that if you go with the latter, I highly recommend equipping both Critical Up S and Critical Up L to counteract the negative affinity that weapon has. The sheer chonky raw damage and hefty defense boost you get are both worth it, though! I personally recommend the Silverwind Star for Support, Bombing, or Gathering cats. Defense, Fighting, and Healing would probably appreciate the defense boost from the Bloodbath Hammer more. For both of these guys, I highly highly recommend bringing your best Adept cat, and Earplugs are absolutely required on Bloodbath. Trust me. He's an absolute fucker.

For Paralysis, look no further than the F Naja Punji XR, made from Hyper Najarala.

It's blunt, it does paralysis, what more could you want? Defense, Healing, and Support cats do especially well with this weapon.

Want a Blast weapon? Then hoo boy you want to fight Hellblade Glavenus.

His weapon is amazing. White sharpness, high raw damage for both melee and range, and lots of lovely explody Blast damage! Note that I haven't mentioned the name of the weapon yet. That's because the Hellblade weapon is the only case where you don't need the EX version of the weapon. Both the F Smoldering Whiskers

and the F Searing Whiskers

have the same sharpness and the same raw damage. The only difference between them is the F Searing Whiskers does sliiiiightly more Blast damage. Considering what a bitch and a half Hellbutt is, not really worth the bother unless you're a real glutton for punishment. For the love of god please use Adept on this guy... It's worth it, though! This is a great weapon for any Support Bias. You can never go wrong with it!

Lastly, for Poison your best bet is the F Deadeye Fan XX from Deadeye Yian Garuga.

It has the coveted purple sharpness and tons of poison damage! This weapon is a good choice for any support bias when fighting monsters that are very vulnerable to poison and/or have a poo poo load of HP. Note Deadeye is cripplingly weak to water, especially on his back. A team of coordinated Prowlers can pretty much stunlock this guy by machinegunning boomerangs on his back!

Now let's talk elemental weapons. In general- Gathering, Bombing, Support, and Fighting are the Support Biases who benefit the most from hitting elemental weaknesses. Defense and Healing should equip a status weapon, or the Bloodbath Hammer for defense.

The best Fire weapon is the F Agnaktor Lance XR from Hyper Agnaktor.

Alternatively you can use the F Dreadking Blade XX from Dreadking Rathalos.

The damage is a bit lower, but the extra Gauge gain is appreciated.

Best in class for Ice is the F Snowbaron Stick XX from Snowbaron Lagombi.

Equip Critial Up S and Critical Up L to counteract the negative Affinity.

For Thunder, equip the F Fatalis Rod from Old Fatalis.

The F Zibolt Spear from Boltreaver Astalos is a good alternative if you'd prefer the extra gauge gain in exchange for a little less damage.

Also consider that all the Fatalis weapons require actual Fatalis bits to craft. Specifically you gotta break his head. Personally I'd go with the Boltreaver...

Your best Water weapon is F Incarnadine Greed from Soulseer Mizutsune.

If you need a Dragon weapon, you have a few options. F Katzenlampe XR from Hyper Gore Magala,

F La Venyass from Shagaru Magala, or

F Fatalis Eye from Fatalis.

Note that the latter has some rather hefty negative Affinity, and worse sharpness than the other options. And also all the Fatalis weapons require actual Fatalis bits to craft- specifically the ones you get from breaking his head. Personally I wouldn't bother. Pick whichever of the Gore or Shaggy weapons that you think looks cooler.

For Melee-Focused Cats

Cats may be better with their boomerangs, but we're not going to neglect our melee friends! Beast and Fighting cats both excel at getting up close and purr-sonal.

For pure raw damage, you again want to go with the F Bloodbath Hammer from Bloodbath Diablos, because the thing is just that good.

Just remember to equip Critical Up S and Critical Up L to counteract the negative Affinity.

If Crits are more your style, then boy do I have a couple weapons for you! The Guildcalibur X, made with various rare late G-rank bonus prizes, has a ridiculous 25% Affinity.

If that's not spicy enough for you, go into the G-Rank DLC quests and do "Capcom: Prowler's Spirit," which gives you access to the F Spirits Pickaxe.

This puppy has a whopping 30% Affinity. With Critical Up S and Critical Up L, you're looking at a beastly 60% Affinity. Holy-MOLY I'm having the vapors! :vince:

Your best bet for Paralysis is still the F Naja Punji XR from Hyper Najarala, because it's a Balanced weapon.

Isn't that convenient? I'd recommend Beast cats for this weapon more than fighting, because Paralysis and rodeos don't mix as well as you would think.

And hey, guess what? For Blast you can still go with the F Smoldering Whiskers, or the F Searing Whiskers if you're feeling feisty.

Another option is F Havoc Eye from our friend Crimson Fatalis.

But note that the same things about the other Fatalis weapons apply. Frankly... I'd just stick to the Hellbutt sword, if I were you.

If you want to Poison something, go and bully a Hyper Rathian for her F Rathian Rapier XR.

If you'd rather go with a Deviant weapon for the extra gauge gain, go after Dreadqueen Rathian for her F Dreadqueen Rapier XX.

Just keep in mind for this weapon you'll want to equip Critical Up S and Critical Up L to cancel out the negative Affinity. So many otherwise amazing cat weapons have negative Affinity and it sucks! :argh:

For Fire, definitely go with the F Dreadking Blade XX from Dreadking Rathalos.

For Ice weak monsters, you want either the F Kushala Wand X from our good buddy Kushala Daora,

or the Barioth Knife XR from Hyper Barioth.

Your choice. The Kushala Wand has better sharpness, but the Barioth Knife has more Affinity. Pick whichever one you think looks cooler.

In Thunder damage, you again have a couple choices. You can beat up a Hyper Zinogre for a Mewsurper's Peal XR,

or go with F Thunderlord's Roar XX from Thunderlord Zinogre if you'd prefer a Deviant weapon.

If you want Water, then you want the F Mizutsune Parasol XR from a Hyper Mizutsune.

Yes, it's weird that the Deviant version isn't the best one here but it is for ranged cats. I don't question these things.

For Dragon weapons, you can go with the F Dragon Comet from Valstrax,

or Alatreon's F Escador Scythe X.

The F Dragon Comet has better Affinity, but the F Escador Sythe has slightly higher damage. Pick whichever one you think looks cooler, but note that if you go with the Scythe, you'll also need Heavy Scraps from Akantor and Ukanlos.

Honorable mention goes to the F Sealed Drgn Halberd, which you get from Lao-Shan Lung.

It's comparable to the F Escador Scythe, with the same sharpness and same melee raw damage, but significantly less dragon damage. I only mention it because 1) it looks cool and 2) it's WAY easier to get and doesn't require you going after two other Elder Dragons to boot!

Armor

And last but not least, we'll cover your best cat armors! Keep in mind, you can Fuse these armors to look like anything you want, but if you want to fuse Deviant armor, you'll have to beat the EX version of that Deviant first. Nobody said fashion was easy!

Any of these are great choices for your end-game cats. They all have basically the same defense numbers. The biggest difference is in their elemental resistances.

(Columns, from left to right are: Rarity, Defense, Fire Res, Water Res, Lightning Res, Ice Res, Dragon Res, Price)

F Dragon Helm and Mail from Fatalis.

Good all around resistances for everything exept dragon.

F Fatalis Crimsonhelm and Crimsonmail from Crimson Fatalis.

Chonky fire resistance and not much else. Watch out for dragons...

F Old Fatalis Helm and Mail from Old Fatalis.

Great thunder res, but lacking in the fire and especially dragon department.

F Hellblade Helm XX and Mail XX from EX Hellblade Glavenus.

Really weak to everything except fire and dragon.

F Bloodbath Helm XX and Mail XX from EX Bloodbath Diablos.

Great fire res, but watch out for water and ice.

And that's it! You now have all the knowledge you need to kit our your kittens to be the best they can pawssibly be! Happy hunting, friends!
