2x2 size Another of the “guns everyone knows” guns, the Luger is also the default evil gun for people you want to seem especially Nazi-like. The Luger deserves the distinction of being the originator of the 9x19mm Parabellum round that is so easily found around the world. Accepted into Imperial German service in 1908, this old gun has an unusual toggle-lock mechanism that bends like a knee joint instead of sliding back and forth like the common Browning design. It has the perfect grip angle for a target pistol, making it a natural pointer and straight shooter. The real gun is known for being very picky about its ammo, which has given it a reputation for poor reliability. The gun in game reflects a well-maintained gun using proper ammo, and as such it has similar reliability as more modern guns instead of some clapped-out old war trophy firing a weird mix of underpowered ammo like a lot of users in real life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lW0qDsMIAlk

If you just talk to him, he'll give you his dog tags to fake his death and the rope as a message to the rebels that you're an ally who can be trusted. I think he also gives you the location of the rebel camp.

JA2 question: are there mortars?

JcDent posted:JA2 question: There are actually no emplaced weapons in this game at all. Everything is man-portable, even though some (like the biggest anti-materiel rifles) can only be fired on the bipod. I wonder how badly the game would break trying to incorporate turrets or the like.

I guess they didn't get to emplaced weapons until Marauder Man of Prey; that's got a couple of big static machine-guns in it. I haven't played it myself yet though; I don't know how they handle. I seem to remember Tin Tim saying in his LP of Marauder that they were pretty awkward to use. On mortars in 7.62; I did notice recently that if you tell a character to hip-fire an under-barrel grenade launcher, they'll fire it up in the air in kind of a mortar-like trajectory. I've been finding it incredibly useful.

considering the engagement distances that sounds like a smart plan since you're usually too close for the grenades to arm by the time they reach their target

With the Luger and TNT in the car, dog tags recovered, and spare loot sold, the crew returns to Artrigo at sunset. Amazingly, the troops have no trouble with Cameron walking into the government headquarters open carrying an MP5K. "Tell me more about Captain Barrera," Cameron says. "Why can't your own men rescue him?" "Captain Barrera made a name for himself during the civil war. When most of the rebels were destroyed, Enrique was sent to serve in Campecino. It was one of the best postings we had. However, according to eyewitnesses, he was recently involved in a firefight with the terrorists and was captured." "And the reason I'm giving this to you and not the army is simple. The guerrilla camp is well hidden and well protected. The locals have long harbored separatist sentiments, so it's hard for us to launch an area search without tipping off the rebels and it'll be even harder to launch a full-scale assault on the camp without virtually guaranteeing that Barrera will be executed before we get to him. This would require more resources than we can spare at the moment. "A single operative can conduct this operation with greater finesse. It's likely that the guerrillas will contact you themselves, once you get into the restricted zone. You are not officially a government agent. You're new to the country, so you have a good chance of staying alive. Besides, I've heard of your anti-government stint in Palinero." Cameron's eyes go hard, and Rebenga smiles. "Don't be surprised. We know much more about that country than you think. So, in short, I have high hopes for your professionalism, and that is why I'm relying on you in this matter." We now have unrestricted access to the whole country of Algeira. With that comes added danger: bandits patrol the restricted zone, putting us at constant risk of attack as we travel the southern half of the country. This does mean that we can finally fulfill our mission for the Santa-Maria gun runner and drop off that package in Cali-Cantinos. Where do we go next? 1. Accept the mission and start searching for the rebel camp to rescue Barrera. We don't know where the camp is, so we can either ask around with civilians who might be in the know or just wander the southern half of the country until we stumble upon the camp. 2. Return to Paco and help escort Miguel to El Vertigo. 3. Head to Cali-Cantinos to drop off the package (you can also vote to do this in addition to one of the above). 4. Ignore the possible missions and just try to find the rebels ourselves.

Looting the corpses would be a lot easier if we hadn't already filled our vehicle with everything we can carry. I think we can fit one or two rifles or their equivalent before we're out of space.

Oof, is that body there an unconscious Dessert? I don't know, she doesn't look so good. Maybe you guys should hang around one of the towns passing time until she's less catatonic and bleeding. If there's no time/money pressure, anyway; I don't know how it's been set up for this exactly; whether everyone needs to be paid or not.

Maybe it'd be best to return Dessert to the rotation and bring in a new merc; otherwise we'd be going in to any fight one man down.

Here's updated inventories for everyone: I forgot to put it in his hands, but Earp still has his Thompson. Also, I tested firing and re-hiring Dessert. She was in the exact same condition upon re-hiring, which means either she heals at the usual rate or she's frozen in time and won't heal until she's part of the unit. I'm not entirely sure without more extensive testing.

iirc, mercs will (slowly) heal if left on their own for a while. But it does take a while. At this point, the best thing to do is let Dessert go and see if there's any escort or rescue quests we could do while we have a 6th spot open on our squad.
