Dessert continues her hot yoga before taking a trip back to base. She'll need to spend some good time in recovery out in the Caribbean before she's ready to return to the unit.

Notice anything different? You can use the console command "enter_dev_mode" to enable what I'm about to do, but it changes the name of all of your mercs to CHEATER. Ordinarily it even changes the name above their head in big red letters, but it looks like we lucked out of this one....for now.

With a current sale price of $22,222, this golden turtle serves as nothing but a way to quickly inject cash into your coffers. This will reduce the impact of hiring a new merc to replace Dessert.

Our new merc, played by sparkmaster, is Warlock! A kinda-sorta Acadian from Ontario, the sniper son of a lobster catching family.

Warlock will get to keep his starting gear, which is pretty basic.

Where do we go next?

1. Accept the mission and start searching for the rebel camp to rescue Barrera. We don't know where the camp is, so we can either ask around with civilians who might be in the know or just wander the southern half of the country until we stumble upon the camp.

2. Return to Paco and help escort Miguel to El Vertigo.

3. Head to Cali-Cantinos to drop off the package (you can also vote to do this in addition to one of the above).

4. Ignore the possible missions and just try to find the rebels ourselves.

2x2 size

The Universal Self-Loading Pistol by Heckler & Koch is one of the most popular modern handguns in the world, competing with the likes of Beretta and Glock. While HK has tried superseding it with updated guns like the P2000 and VP9, the original USP remains in service around the world and is the standard service pistol of the German military as the P8.

The USP is pretty standard as far as modern double-stack handguns go, with a double/single-action trigger and decocker. It's essentially a smaller, refined version of the Mk 23 Mod 0 pistol used by SOCOM. The only part of the gun that isn't conventional is a heavy captive spring to reduce recoil, but it's built as solid as a tank and is extremely reliable in the field. This variant is the USP Tactical, which has an extended threaded barrel for suppressors. As a .45 ACP variant, it uses 12-round magazines.

Warlock digs the shotgun and two boxes of shells out of the trunk. The team drives toward Sagrada, arriving just after sunset.

The CHEATER tag strikes! Luckily it isn't affecting names over characters' heads, so you'll still be able to identify yourselves in screenshots.

"Not mucho complication," Paco grunts. "Just take the puto to El Vertigo. I phone the guardia, err, guards, si. I phone them ahead, say you coming. They take him off yer shoulders when you arrive then."

"Right," Cameron says. "Let's see the honorary VIP of this mission and get this objective on."

Miguel is ushered out by another cop, his hands cuffed, and Paco gives you a spare key. Before hitting up the prison, you decide to take a detour to Cali-Cantinos and drop off that package before anything more happens.

The Restricted Zone in the southern half of the map is shrouded by clouds until you enter it. This forces you to follow the roads step by step. Areas that your character is given are already visible, so if you're in a hurry you can just click on it and go.

On the way, the group passes by the gold mining town of Ciudad de Oro and the military base at Fortalesa.

Cali-Cantinos is a Palinero town, just over the border. With things as hectic as they are, there's basically no such thing as border control. Your little car just speeds on through.

Cali-Cantinos at dawn is surprisingly quiet. Everyone else waits at the car for Cameron to find Gustavo. On the way, he suddenly spots a familiar face!

Rico is a character from Brigade E5, this game's predecessor that deals with your merc loving poo poo up in Palinero. He's the right hand man of the smuggling boss in Cali-Cantinos back then and gives you your missions and pay.

He also has a shop that supplies high end weaponry. Currently all he's got is a single Colt Python.

Gustavo is one of the smugglers Rico is working with. He's even got his own shop, complete with RPG displays!

Another $10,000 richer, Cameron gets back in the car and everyone starts heading to El Vertigo.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QY1Vetd7OCs

It's an ambush!

In the Restricted Zone, jungle ambushes by bandits are a constant threat. Those yellow circles (squares on the map) are escape zones, and there's typically one in each corner. You have the choice of either fleeing a fight or standing your ground and taking whatever loot you can....if you survive. Escaping requires your entire squad to be in any of the escape zones (not the same one, as long as they're in one) for 10 seconds before you can drive off.

Oh, and try not to shoot your own car. It's not invincible.

You just need to have everyone standing in an exit point for 10 seconds. The timer is individual and doesn't require everyone to be in the same exit point, which just means if you want to escape you'll need to pick whichever one is the best compromise between distance from the enemy and speed to reach.

My point was more that you still have to fight your way to one, so there's no easy way to get out without fighting.

I want that gun, I'd definitely consider crawling to a tree in front and trying to let them get into range before they see me, but if a majority want to run, I'm down with that.

Another bandit appears on the north side of the map, with a submachine gun.

Mario wasn't sure if this Jeb guy was a good influence on Yoshi.

So it's one north, two south, and four east, and the east are the ones with long range weapons?

Take advantage of Bac's covering fire and move south aggressively. It looks like there's a line of sight obstacle to the east if I can get south of that road? If so, clear it as fast as possible, then grab a tree and catch my breath.

Quinntan

chitoryu12
Apr 24, 2014

Looking at the map, each group of attackers seems to be approaching from a natural chokepoint. It's just a matter of which one you want to focus on, if you want to stand your ground instead of fleeing.

In order to get line of sight, Paquito moves next to the car as Linchpin runs past him for the rock formation.

A burst of gunfire whips through the spot Linchpin used to be standing in!

As Paquito crouches, Linchpin hustles up to clear his line of fire.

The two southern attackers go prone, making them much harder to see or hit from here.

Paquito fires a burst, but every round hits the ground far in front of the target. Now that they've gone prone in the time it took Paquito to get line of sight and ready his weapon, it'll be hard to hit them without getting closer or tossing a grenade.

One of the attackers fires a shot, which goes wide.

Linchpin finds himself standing just around the corner from the two southern attackers, protected from the east side with pockets full of ammo and grenades...
