hello op. i'm here to tell you how to learn to play pinball. first watch all of these videos https://papa.org/learning-center/players-guide/?target=techniques

then find a local place to play pinball. here's a pinball map https://pinside.com/pinball/map
here's another https://pinballmap.com/

pick a game you want to learn. preferably one that has a tutorial video on this page, even better if it's in pinball arcade. watch the tutorial, buy it in pinball arcade and play the poo poo out of it until you've got the ruleset memorized

now you may play the real pinball

Thanks to this post I discovered one of the bars on the way home from work has a Ripley's Believe it or Not!.

It doesn't really need much work. Just some coils replaced for the most part and replacing the bulbs with LEDs. I hired a tech who offered to teach me how to do some repairs then is going to fix half and let me fix half. The pinball community is really great!

Okay guys I will try to make a repair log in this thread! I took a video of the broken bumper, popup and flipper. I will post it here shortly! No more video for at least a week until parts arrive. If there's any questions until then ask and I'll try to answer!

Their interested, partly genuine, but also partly because these kinds of project diaries often turn into completely awesomely insane revelations about the author. Game on brother.

I'm really dumb too that's why I'm paying someone. What's a good video hosting/compression site? A 30 second video I took on my phone is 200 megs for some reason.

Okay team.

Here's the pinball machine we need to fix:
MARS GOD OF WAR

The apron is gone, that's why there's a big empty space at the bottom of the playfield.
Here's a video of the issues we need to fix: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59vtYJG2lNA

One thing I didn't get on video was the warbase ramp sticking, and one of the rollovers not working.
Things I did get are:
-Right flipper chattering
-right sling chattering
-upper left pop bumper dead

We also need to swap the bulbs for LEDs which is easy.

Things not in the video we need to do:
Rebuild power supply board with a new cap kit
Fix player 1 and 3 displays
Do a ground mod so there's more than 1 ground point on the system
Put LEDs in the coin slots so it looks cool

Here's a picture what a coil looks like:
https://imgur.com/CumUGgf

Here's what the under the playfield of a 40 year old pin looks like:
https://imgur.com/lpfwSLd

Here's what the mechanics look like:
https://imgur.com/g5PTzYS

Any questions ask away.

That's just the mechanical components involved in the machine. All of the circuit boards and "brains" of the machine are behind the head which I will take pictures of tomorrow. Also will someone in America/Eastern Canada please help ship me pinball parts. I pay roughly 60/40 split between parts and shipping. Doesn't matter where it comes from I live in Alberta so I get raped professionally.

Had a fun game on a reasonably well maintained Whirlwind machine just now. The spinner gimmick doesn't really have much impact on play tbh. Earned a free play but didn't have time to use it, still it feels good to pay it forward.
