quick overview of these guys' accomplishments

have hosted an actual radio show on left political theory that is broadcast on a real FM station in london weekly since 2011
put together a really diverse collective of people to create media
had conversations (not just interviews!!) with upwards of a hundred leftist authors about their work
regularly talked with leading socialist and labor politicians from around europe and the world about political developments in real time
coined and popularized the phrase "fully automated luxury communism"
built their own media studio funded mostly by listener donations and their own pocket money
went on sky news and the bbc to dunk on ukipers and tories multiple times ahead of brexit and the 2017 election

I've been listening regularly since 2013. these guys are the real deal and (not to disparage any comrades in podcasting!) i've been dying for something nearly as good to come on the american media scene

This episode is fantastic. The hosts suggest Neil Smith's The New Urban Frontier for further reading, and I can't recommend it enough to those who are interested in the subject. The ep pulls a lot from the first couple chapters, but the book goes on to explore the structures of power and coercion that real estate bullshit is meant to obscure. The use of language discussed in the episode is distressing enough, but the conclusion Smith arrives at is that gentrification in many ways is a project by economic and political elites to take revenge on poor people who inconvenienced capitalism by living in rundown neighborhoods. Really nasty stuff.
