platzapS posted:I like communist theory and hate "fun" morning zoo poo poo, so Tampa-based Swampside Chats is my favorite. Once in a while they use a sound effect or tell a joke and I get angry until they start more dry speculation on Lenin. I tried an episode and I had no idea what they were talking about. What is "left communism"? I looked it up on wikipedia and got even more confused. Can someone dumb it down for me?

I know that worker co-ops already currently exist IRL, but do they operate at a "natural" disadvantage to regular capitalist enterprise? I keep thinking that of course a sweatshop is going to produce at a lower cost via externalities and worker exploitation.

I tried listening to Dead Pundits Society, because one of their hosts, Aimee Terese, was on Rev Left Podcast's episode where she did a good takedown of Sam Harris, Steven Pinker, and Jordan Peterson. Their latest episode was on what does democratic socialism actually mean, and I kinda gave up on the ep after both their guest speaker and the host began with and ran with the assertion that democratic socialism might not work in Kentucky and the Midwest, compared to the "Brooklyn socialism" of someone like Alexandra Ocasio Cortez, while also citing Bernie Sanders's difficulty in winning over the African-American vote. Consider: I’ve spoken to hundreds of voters in “flyover country.” Socialism is an easy sell.
