South Korea was still preserved at the end of things so america was able to rationalize things away. my favorite part about the mcarthur thing is omar bradley coming in to tell congress how mcarthur was full of poo poo and how badly hosed they'd be if they nuked china and if the ussr opened a second theater in europe in response, due to the post wwii drawdown.
