The only bad thing about Endless Legend are the elves, who they didn't even bother to make sense within the logic of the setting. Are they native fauna, experimentations of the endless, shipwrecked aliens? Who gives a poo poo, their faction is lame.

They're pretty much just a faction for new players, with production bonuses, one of the best ranged units, and a balanced unit roster that's all together very forgiving of new player mistakes.

Torment is worth it for the art direction alone imo, although the writing is also top notch and there's usually multiple ways to resolve a problem without going into combat as well. The combat is ok.

Wasteland 2 was in a shameful state on release, and I'm sure it's been fixed for a long time but I can't be bothered to go back again, knowing how lame the story is. It was easy to tell which areas they worked the most on like the bio research facility, which was fully fleshed out over months of testing and revision, compared to most of the rest of the game which was extremely straightforward.

I mean, MCP and the Overhaul Project is essential now, if only to get the draw distance to something respectable - but the actual in-game interface is solid for mouse + keyboard. You could drag all of the windows to any size you wanted, put them where you wanted, and even lock them so they stayed visible in real-time. I guess the real problem is that there's no item sorting for your inventory, and there's a ton of items to pick up.

Since this is basically the unofficial Alpha Centauri/CSPAM gaming thread, I'm encountering a catastrophic CTD bug with Yitzi's 3.5 patch that crashes every time after a massive fungal bloom from eco damage. In case you don't know, you're supposed to paste it into your SMAC folder and replace the original .exe with that one. Might have to redo your desktop shortcut too.

Have you not installed Yitzi's 3.5 patch already? I don't get why it wouldn't be working otherwise. e: I eventually got to the point where any random event, like forest or fungus expansion, or one of my units being blown up would CTD. I basically just disabled PRACX and the ctd problem went away. It's inconvenient but PRACX 1.10 is like three years old while Fitzi's Patch was just updated last year, so there's bound to be some conflict. If you want to force Alpha Centauri do do a widescreen without installing PRACX, go into your alphacentauri.ini and add in a line under [Alpha Centauri] that says DirectDraw=0 and it'll default to your desktop resolution. The UI and the FMVs are at a lower resolution, but the game map itself will fit your whole screen. ee: nevermind the problem came back. Guess my current game is boned.
