If it's not working at all, you need to change the ini to include directdraw=0 and then manually set the resolution, but I don't think anyone ever made a "proper" widescreen mod.

there's another older patch by a guy called kyrub that was an attempt to improve the AI. it basically teaches it how to use crawlers and properly terraform. i wouldn't say it makes the AI "challenging" but it does make a noticeable difference, they'll build tree farms and plant forests, crawl mines, and even build boreholes. sadly it doesnt work with SMAX, only the original game
SMAX added nothing of value other than fungal artillery so that's okay, imo.

Kickstarted SMAC is pretty much Pandora: First Contact, which was really not a good game (it's Okay but when you're trying to live up to something Great that isn't enough)

it has an armour system where enemies have either physical or magical armour. they're immune to all status effects until the armour of the corresponding type is damaged enough to no longer be there. I've been running a 2h melee, 1h 1shield melee, dw rogue and a ranger and i'm doing really well. partly because physical gets the objectively best CC in the game but enemies usually have more physical armour. I'm playing the main elf starting character and decided to level summoning because its a good thing to level and by using the elf starting skill i can make my summon only do physical damage and it now easily does most damage. try and make sure you're all either physical or magical damage basically.

you can respec for free without losing all the stuff you learned like the first game too

its probably worth installing a mod that makes item scaling not so insane because its alright in act 1 and most of 2 but becomes genuinely ridiculous after that. If you decide to only use 2 people and go lone wolf it breaks the game fairly heavily but you miss out on a lot of story stuff. I burned out of the first game after act 2 but this i'm nearly finsihed and its a lot of fun

then she dies on the spaceship in events preceding the game so he feels guilty about it

so instead of moving on his literally clones her in the events of the game so he can "love her again"

ofc cloning doesn't work like fully adult version of a person comes out of the vats, so it's more like he clones his wife and gets her as a child and is gonna groom her to be his lover even though he's literally like 100 years older

Stacking units and then dropping infinity XP on them with a special satellite was garbage, as was the unit designer which didn't even let you save stuff for using again in future even though the Very Slightly Randomised Tech Tree always contained the same stuff just in a different order. I'm always going to want a sniper/flamer unit. And one that's a trike. And one that's a tank, etc. etc. but it makes you redo it every game. Sad!

Endless Legend is the one that interacts with the strategy map though? AoW3 shunts you off into a tactical pocket dimension when you don't autoresolve

Unless you're talking about spells and abilities like mining that change the strat map, which you are right about
It shunts you off into a tactical pocket dimension that you can affect A Lot on the strat map and not just down to terraforming but also casting spells which affect city areas and so on, plus the different races in the game have wildly different environmental tolerances. S'nice.

EL the battles are On The Strat Map but this also completely fucks the scale up when your guys can quite happily bound over 8 tiles of map to fight but for some reason only move three or four a turn otherwise and then slowly (gratingly slowly) sidle back to their old position at the end of combat.

First time approaching it you don't have to!

There's automation on all kinds of things, any time society changes come up it opens the menu (see also Workshop stuff), even if you never look for it, and on piss baby moron difficulty you can win without even changing the sliders or pop booming with psych spending or knowing about crawlers etc.

It also never really became popular at the time. Civ: CtP was the one that got the sequel, I guess probably because it retained the Civ name.

SMAC had a really good 100 turn demo when it came out in '99, though, which is why a given age of computer games player knew it and all bought it for basically nothing when it came out on GOG.
