We're flipping the Switch With Breath of the Wild finally winding down after eight months, we were worried we might have to let the Switch sit and do nothing for a while... and then hey, whaddya know, the first real, honest-to-god core Mario game in seven years has arrived! And it's even got a bit of an open-world vibe to it like its cousin, go figure. Somehow, we've never played a Mario game for real on our channel, and we've been at this for 6 years with 4000 videos under our belt. We're due. So over the winter, we're gonna be flipping the Switch and taking on Super Mario Odyssey! As usual, there's a pretty wide range of skill levels across the team, some of us have been playing Mario games literally our entire lives, others haven't really put their hands on the controller for it before. So not only are we going to be seeing all that this game has to offer, but we'll get a chance to see just how challenging certain aspects of the game can be, and how easy it is for beginners and veterans alike to adapt to the new mechanics and gameplay. The plan is to put up new videos each weekday, roughly 15 minutes apiece until... well, we decide we wanna bring this thing to a close. Could be a month or two, could be next summer, who knows? This post might shift a little over time as well as we sort of feel out how the game's gonna go, but for now... away we go!

Because the original post is scraping up against 50,000 characters, I'll continue the video / Power Moon list here, we should be all good at that point.
For consistency's sake, I'll add the first video here too, and I'll be doing the same for each new video, something along the lines of this: Part 1: "I'm Your Hat Now, Bitch! | Bonneton, Cap Kingdom https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8n6VYb3CL_M Been looking forward to this game all year, let's shoot for the moon! ricdesi fucked around with this message at 17:07 on Apr 27, 2018 |

Right? I'm glad I'm not the only one who got that vibe out of it, Halloween seems like the PERFECT time to get a little Jack Skellington in our cereal. That said, we're headed away from Bonneton so we can go mess around with T-REXES, WHAT. Oh, and also forever look at the Power Moons as Holy Bananas or something. That's kinda what I figured, yeah. Alright, unless people have a serious objection I'll keep the rolling total in the updates, and probably add it to the OP as well at some point.

So, uh. ...Jurassic Park as gently caress? I'm probably going to run out of horror movies pretty quick. Anyway, moons are kind of... both power stars from 64 and green stars from 3D World? Some of them are plot things and change the level, some of them just hang out.

Basically there is a series of 'plot' power moons indicated by the big text pop ups that lead into each other. Grabbing one activates a pan-over cutscene leading to the next, etc. When the last in the chain is done, a ton of power moons and stuff in the level is unlocked, so holding off on exploration until then is a good idea, otherwise you have to backtrack to everywhere.

You can explore while following the plot, explore later, or what have you. Depends on how big your completionist itch is and how you decide to scratch it. I assume you don't need anywhere near all 600 Moonshines to finish the game.

There's way more than that though and a lot of them don't even unlock until you hit the post-game.

Looking good so far. I agree with the folks in the channel- the game just looks good, in ways that aren't always true for some of the Nintendo games. I'm really tempted to pick up a Switch, which would make it the first portable system I've had in... a long time. I'm still not sure, though, grabbing a first-gen version of a system always feels pretty risky to me. (Also, power moon count from the end of each episode is for sure the way to go. I think it's a good tracker for those watching and it seems like the natural way to show how things are progressing each episode.)

Infinite yawning voids. Her one weakness. Seriously, though, that's actually a pretty strong obstacle gauntlet. Very 3D world, except they never let you learn it in safety. I suppose a 10-coin penalty makes them unafraid to kill you.

Infinite voids of the abyss and static, non-moving obstacles were a pretty big hurdle for the team this time around to plow into and then die in purple goop. The "death" penalty is really friendly, though. You're basically only losing time, as ten coins is a pretty trivial amount.
