Yeah, it's really nice touch! It does wind up looking sort of weird seeing regular Mario in retro mode considering the shirt and overalls are reversed from the colors they were back in the actual Super Mario Bros., but some real effort was put in, and it really brings the whole thing together. Seaside Kingdom is probably one of the most peaceful and beautiful and fun water levels in a platformer to date, IMO.

Yeah, this kingdom isn't a patch on the infinite sea on the horizon. Everything in Odyssey is a bit denser than it seems, but this one has that contrast to play against so looking down takes you halfway to vertigo.

I certainly can't argue that this is far and away among the better beach levels I've seen before, but it does seem to have a pretty egregious number of holes and hovels tucked away that are a little tricky to notice, let alone reach. For the freerunning, the octopus couldn't shoot high enough to get to the ledge from the beach, but I think if you'd hopped up on that ledge on the left it could have made it.

I saw the pools coming up to the wall of crates too. I think you can take an octojet all the way up there. I do wonder if that distant land is just to give you some indication that the lava is rising without you having to look down to see it coming up at you.
