The problem is just so enormous, time will tell if anything happens. Let's be real: not only did everyone in movies and tv know this sort of thing happens all the time, we all knew. Not specifics, like Weinstein outright raping Rose McGowan, but still. The concept of the casting couch is as old as the entertainment industry. Yet somehow, as society grudgingly started accomodating women's rights, we seem to have let Hollywood get away with it. Is it just because the entertainment industry is incestuous and we like to think they're all a bunch of sex fiends? I'm honestly wondering here. And: what would be a good way to start exorcising this poo poo? The crash/burn of Weinstein and Spacey won't scare off the other predators forever. I'm thinking like studios mandating that one-on-one casting sessions are no longer allowed, though the Hoffman story showed that's not foolproof either.

His point doesn't seem unfair. He says they should put the psychological work in to fix themselves and sincerely seek forgiveness for what they did. It's just that bringing that up right now is not only a really poor choice, but also smacks of asking to continue the old way of forgiving talented people their horrible crimes because they're talented.

I wonder about accountability and holding up standards of behavior a lot lately, because it's now exploding in the entertainment industry and a lot of other fields of work, while in politics it seems like people are actually being protected from accountability more and more.

One of the few good things to come out of the popularity of social media is that people can now get their own story out before attempts to mute and smear them take effect. I'm hugely disappointed by Tambor. It'd be nice if one of these fucks took actual responsibility for their misconduct and apologized, let alone come forward before they're accused. Though I get that it's legally unwise to do so.

That's the crazy thing. Before everything about Weinstein came out, I would've thought Crews was nuts and probably being ousted because "he was a nightmare to work with." Now there's nothing he's saying I'm not willing to consider is the real deal.

I don't think it's so much that Ansari's well liked, I think it's that it's a far more ambiguous situation going by the given story, and it's bringing all the "witch hunt/slipper slope!" folks out in confidence. I know I'm having a lot of difficult formulating an opinion on this story. Every time I try to put down something coherent, I find myself using a lovely term like "mixed signals" and delete the whole thing.
