More women have come forward against Luc Besson. A second woman accused him of sexual assault, and two other women told the French website Mediapart that Besson "behaved inappropriately" with them, with one actress claiming she had to escape from a casting in his Paris office on her hands and knees.

Bryan Singer in talks to direct Red SonjaHollywood Reporter posted:The X-Men: Apocalypse helmer, who has battled bad PR, lawsuits and continued scrutiny in the post-#MeToo era — none of which seems to have stuck — would take the reins on a big-screen adaptation of the 1970s sword and sorcery Conan the Barbarian comic book spinoff. Ashley Miller, who wrote X-Men: First Class (which Singer produced), is writing the screenplay.

Slate posted:The New York Times got its hands on a draft version of the report produced by the independent investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against disgraced CBS CEO Les Moonves, and whatever you were imagining, it’s worse. According to the Times, which covered the story via the simultaneous publication of a reported piece from Rachel Abrams and Edmund Lee, a summary of the four main takeaways from the draft report, and an opinion piece from James B. Stewart, the lawyers that CBS hired to look into Moonves’ past not only concluded that Moonves had “engaged in multiple acts of serious nonconsensual sexual misconduct in and outside of the workplace, both before and after he came to CBS in 1995,” but that Moonves lied, misled investigators, and destroyed evidence during the course of the investigation. What’s more, the report concludes that board members, high-ranking CBS executives, and rank-and-file employees were aware of allegations against Moonves—in the case of the now-deceased board member Arnold Kopelson, since as far back as 2007—and did little or nothing about them. quote:Although the reporters did conclude that Moonves’ sexual misconduct came to an end in 2004 when he married Julie Chen, knowledge of Moonves’ behavior was still widespread enough in 2018 that multiple employees told the investigators about another CBS employee who was believed to be “on call” to provide Moonves with oral sex, and thus unfireable. The woman in question did not respond to investigators’ requests for an interview, but Moonves admitted to receiving what he described as consensual oral sex from her in his office, despite the fact that she was his subordinate. (The fact that Moonves’ behavior was apparently an open secret casts a terrible light on the board’s initial decision to stand by Moonves until his conduct had been investigated; Moonves didn’t resign until September, after a second round of sexual misconduct allegations.)

It just further backs up my opinion that absolutely nobody should be looking to these people for moral guidance. For better or for worse, if you're famous you have a platform, and you have the ability to either positively or negatively influence others while on that platform. If they decide to open their mouths about a subject and negatively influence others, they should be taken to task and called out for that behavior For a non-sexual assault example: was it dumb as gently caress Jenny McCarthy opened her mouth and spewed antivaccination garbage publicly? Absolutely. Did she deserve to be called out? 100%, and I wish it happened more effectively and quickly. But the fact is, people listened, and still are listening, to what she said. Basebf555 posted:Out of necessity though. You don't just sit by allow Nazis to take over, you punch them and keep punching them until they get tired of it and go back into their holes. My previous post in this thread examined more stuff that straights easily ignore or decry as fake because it's easier to do than look inward (in addition to outward) and try to solve a bigger problem, but this one I'm going to ask for white posters especially to read https://twitter.com/GeeDee215/status/1098616199498395648 https://twitter.com/GeeDee215/status/1098619077415895040 https://twitter.com/ZachStafford/status/1098611662716788736 https://twitter.com/DanaVivianWhite/status/1098634959336677378 The hot take of the day is "victims won't be believed now". This whole thread wouldn't be possible if they were believed even half the time. The vast majority of people who didn't believe this already didn't believe any of the stories from victims I've posted in this post, already didn't believe Terry Crews, already didn't believe Bjork or Rose McGowan, already didn't believe Ashley Judd or Asia Argento, already didn't believe journalists like Ronan Farrow who took the time to listen and gather and publish reports. And in addition to them, there's a noticeable portion of people who did believe, and simply didn't care, because they just wanted to be entertained by the movies or music or books or comedy shows/tours or presidential campaign speeches* the accused made and didn't want something they deemed so minor affecting their ability to enjoy it. (*Don't think I'd neglect to mention that part. Everyone who voted for him in '16 either didn't believe his accusers, or didn't care and could ignore it, and they'll do it again in '20, because the people who were already voting or going to vote for him were going to vote for him no matter what) What I haven't mentioned, what might be worse, and what we've seen recently in increasingly frequent fashion, is when they are believed, and some people really do care...But it's only briefly. Temporarily. Louis CK got to take a vacation and came back to people loving/defending his un-PC tour. Bryan Singer's first film since the accusations finally got mainstream attention...now has Oscar nominations and has made over $854mil worldwide currently. But yeah, now's the time victims feel unsafe to share their stories, or are afraid nobody will believe them, or think/fear/know no justice will come Chris James 2 fucked around with this message at 20:44 on Feb 21, 2019 |
