I know factually I would probably be miserable as a millennial in an unconnected world, but I often fantasize about what it would be like to live back in the days of snail mail video trading and the glory days of public access

Going hand in hand with that is the small miracle of essentially DRM free media. You could record cassettes of shows or movies and nothing was region locked so you could trade stuff. Apparently a lot of ancient hipsters got music by sending self addressed stamped envelopes and blank cassettes to indie bands.
