consider all the people who would computer if they knew how to do anything beyond what "good commands or file names" their nephew had written down on a scrap of paper duct-taped to the banker's lamp on what is now the computer desk here come windows 95, now instead of pecking out words with no understanding of what you're doing, you can click on little pictures that are there to deliberately hide what you're doing, isn't this fantastic

remember when apple used flops as a measure of compute performance because their architecture had the altivec unit and they had nothing else to go on remember when apple constantly used photoshop's gaussian blur filter as a benchmark to demonstrate how a 500mhz g4 was comparable to a 1ghz pentium III remember when they claimed their hardware was military-grade because the processor had a built in crypto unit lol

i remember reading an article in macaddict circa 2001 where they had this huge multi-page infographic and explanation of pipeline bubbles and flushes were such a huge performance impediment to CISC processors that the 733mhz dual-processor g4 really was better than any of those comparably-priced dumb old 1.8 xeons
