I just saw a KLZE-swapped BG 323 in the junkyard. I was in awe that someone would actually perform my life-goal swap. Now I will be doubly blessed.

I've seen some good KLZE MX-3 swaps, but it still strikes me as vaguely insaner than the 323 swap, even though the cars are near as dammit identical.

I thought the Island had Pick N Pull. I know I've seen at least one car that was marked as having come from there when it transferred into our yards. I make the occasional trip out there: we should talk.

Sgt Fox posted:No, not that I know of. We have a couple yards on the south island, but none are you-pull anymore and are quite expensive. Mostly newer cars too. Sgt Fox posted:I keep watching the Pick-a-Part for one of the rear hatch spoilers which came factory on the 323. No luck yet.

Oh, a normal hatch spoiler. I bet we can find that. I kinda like how it looks without one, though.

Sgt Fox posted:On a side note, visited a local junkyard today looking for a bracket and the spark plug wire clips which were broken on the klze. Guy behind the counter basically told me that they weren't interested in looking if they even had anything, even after I asked him about specific parts they had listed on car-part.com. That is now the second yard that has told me to gently caress off when I told them what I was putting in and what I was looking for. I have never gotten anything but an angry reply back from a car-part phone call. I don't know if I just don't seem like the right kind of person on the phone, or what. By spark plug wire clips, do you mean wire separators? Use zipties.

Doesn't the Probe use some kind of inline "upper" tank like a turbo Subaru does, except it has its own overflow nipple? I didn't think it puked solely off the main rad cap, because the rad was so low. Would it work with the heater core return hose? Astonishing Wang posted:I don't get why people are always bragging about stealing small things from pick n pull like it's not still stealing I've tried to pay for bolts before (expensive bolts, too) and the clerks are just like "stop wasting my time." Their core business is crushing and selling car slabs of varying purity to the Chinese, if anything stealing bolts off the car improves the quality yield. The parts sale is kind of a bonus. IMO they should put one of those plastic guide dogs at the door so you can at least put a few bucks in to charity if you feel bad about it. The KLZE swap we saw in the junkyard had a hobbyhacked bolt-in rad support and they had also gutted the headlights and just kept the plastic lenses. The rad fan was a front-mounted pusher fan like yours, though I think it was bigger so the grille insert had also gotten trimmed. Yours looks much better than theirs.

Surely some car must have a bolt-in rad support from the factory?

I'm at least a little convinced the CBSA is stealing RockAuto magnets. I've gotten a few RockAuto packages with RockAuto tape on the top and brown tape on the bottom and no magnets.

Huh, that's a better method for dismantling HLAs than I've seen from the Miata community.

Probably all NAs are cable speedo: my '97 Miata was definitely a cable-driven speedometer, but the speedometer also fed the ECU vehicle speed for some reason I will never understand. I know this because it threw a code when the cable seized since the previous owner greased the outside of the cable when it started making noise on the highway.

McTinkerson posted:Could it be cold start fuel enrichment? This would be my guess. Modern ECUs have a huge pile of tables just for cold start enrichment (atmospheric pressure, cat pre-warming, etc.) but something KLZE-aged would likely only have a scalar table. I'm surprised you haven't dumped the ROM off the ECU, disassembled it, and hacked out the EGR control logic yet. Love the manifold label.

It's a little rusty, yeah. If only we had some kind of pipeline to deliver rusty, mechanically-sound beaters to you for parts cars in exchange for mint 1990s economy cars.

That's a nice setup. The V6 323 I saw in the Pick N Pull lot was clearly a Taurus electric fan that they had to trim chunks out of the front of the car (including headlight housings) to fit. That hood latch is something else.

Mazda Canada did some oddball poo poo around that time period (e.g. dealer-installed Miata DRL module made by drunken hobos) so it wouldn't surprise me at all.

Good repair! I would imagine the Pick N Pull near you has never seen rust before, and so replacing a quarter panel is a concept that is largely unfamiliar to them.

Looks great! Still one of my favourite AI cars. Miata wheels look like Escort GT wheels. I had those on my '91 Miata for awhile.
