Things are more like they
are now than they ever were before.
A few months ago I stumbled upon the fascinating "Science Fiction Handbook for Readers and Writers" by George S. Elrick, and it is a GEM. Not only is the writing endearingly awkward, but Mr. Elrick was kind enough to illustrate several of the concepts himself.
