i lived in Israel when i was younger and have citizenship and whatnot and im horrified at the idea that my old friends from kibbutz could be among those shooting children, or cheering it on. i remember we had regular rocket drills where we all crowded into a reinforced bunker not far from the school, and thinking nothing* of it. 9/11 happened and the adults said, and this is the real translation of a real thing that was said, "now they'll know how it feels". i guess they were right--the america i returned to was as insane and bloodthirsty as israel apparently was, though i was too young to see any of it.

ive wanted to go back but i dont know if i could now, knowing everything that happens, that had happened in the last 16 years. nowadays bibi and son literally defend hitler and post neo-nazi propaganda. indicted for corruption and he's probably more popular than ever. and the way they--we?-- treat Ethiopian Jews; what moral or spiritual legitimacy can we claim, when white supremacy is more important to the government than Judaism? literal nazis praise the state of Israel for how it's organized, how it acts--how is this not a wakeup call?

*they were vastly preferable to school assemblies in america tbh

The one I lived on was nice, welcoming, and communal, significantly less bougie than the American suburbs I was used to, but I was ten. There were free communal meals every evening and they made a lot of purple cabbage salads. Also, milk came in bags.

The tiny English fiction section of the library was filled with Tom Clancy novels so in retrospect the fascism was right under my nose.

There's no humidity, and the north is really pretty. Even in the desert, you can sit in the shade and it's not that bad. I live in Pennsylvania and the only time (during the summer, aka right now) it's not miserable is immediately after it rains.

Also Israelis are really hot. The commitment the government has to white supremacy is terrifying and dangerous to the future attractiveness of Israel. Don't ask me to elaborate, no Jew has any idea what it means to be Jewish; practically all modern Jewish art is about asking this question and getting no answer.

More politically, the socialist history of a lot of kibbutzim and even the shadow of that which was left back in 2001, visible even to a child who barely spoke the language, stood out so much in contrast to the suburbs I'd grown up in. I eventually read more about the history of the country and the ideas that motivated a lot of early Zionists and I wish that dream could still live.

Unfortunately both of the countries that I'm connected to are ruled by monstrous forces that ravage whole world and seem to threaten all of our futures. That's why I post on C-SPAM I guess.
