Went raiding with friends in the hopes of gen 4 dropping, caught a 91% Mewtwo instead and traded for a shiny charmander which I was missing.

I caught a 96% Mewtwo yesterday. Since it was released I'm 9 for 9 on catching them. e: actually, 11/11 as I caught two using my daughters' account.

I caught a Deoxys! My wife caught "Pool Noodle Man"! Also leveled up to 38. Thanks Deoxys. Theoxys.

I don't like the new friend level notifications because you now can't pop a lucky egg before noticing you leveled up with a friend unless you do it first.

I've caught 4 Scythers in the past hour, all in very different places. I've only seen a few before today. Weird.

Seems like the weather boost changes are in effect? I’ve seen lots of different types in the rain in addition to weather boosted bugs. Will be interesting to see how this works going forward.

Just the usual garbage around here, but it's fine, unless Unown are suddenly more common or something I'm not really looking for anything in particular. I gotta clean up my box ahead of Gen 4, I've hit the 1,500 cap.

Can confirm Unowns are more common. 2 friends reported seeing them in downtown Chicago in different spots, and got an alert on discord to a couple more in the suburbs. First EX raid ever today, and I failed to catch it. Apparently the circle lock trick doesn't work anymore, or maybe just not on Deoxys?

It still works as of a few hours ago. I'd guess you're throwing too late, maybe? In other news, after 53 mewtwos on my main I finally scored a 98%. 13 attack .

I played the entire day without realizing there was an update. Also went out to the Deoxys raid at Starbucks and there were a ton of people crowded around there. Our team got it in like a minute and I successfully caught one for both my girlfriend and me (her's is a 91.1% or so, mine is worse). Also, I guess now that I've grown sick of seeing Kabuto and Drowzee, it's time to get sick of seeing Yanma: Maybe it's for the Gen IV release?

I started Pokémon go when it first came out and stopped a month in or so because I didn’t (still don’t) know anyone in real life in my city that played, and also because my phone at the time was slow and the battery poo poo. I have a new phone now and also an Apple Watch and I think I wanna try again. I used to play on a throwaway google account and now I want to start over again on my real account. So I just had some questions. 1) With the watch, how “passive” is this game now? What would be perfect is if I didn’t really have to “play” the game actively but instead just react to notifications that come in on my watch telling me to pull out my phone or whatever, without actively staring at my watch/phone all day. 2) I don’t remember how I choose my team last time. Are you still stuck with the team you chose and does it limit you being able to interact with people? Say I visit some friends and find out they play, but are on a different team. I’m assuming I can’t trade or raid with them? 3) is the op still correct about using a gmail account vs registering a Pokémon go account?

Took me two throws with deoxys. Waited until the counter attack twice, and hit him with an excellent curve with a golden razz, then with a great curve with a golden razz. Got him on the second throw. Way easier than I expected. My buddy did basically the same, but it took him 3 throws. No unown sightings in this area, but I’m not in a huge city.

You can do both, the only thing you'll be limited by is deciding which of you gets to take the gyms for their team after you defeat them (assuming they don't already belong to one of your teams). Once you pick your team you can't change it without making a completely new account.

Teams have been de-emphasized, you still battle other teams over gyms but trading is unaffected by team and while there are some small team bonuses for item payout/balls raiding is largely a collaborative thing and it doesn't really matter what colour you picked at the beginning of the game.

The watch will measure walking distance in the background which works towards hatching eggs and earning candy for whichever Pokémon you set as your buddy. There are also separate options for the watch notifying you when you’re near a pokestop or a Pokémon appears, but I generally keep these off because otherwise it’s buzzing all the time and I may as well have my phone out. It’s not like the Pokémon Go wristband where you can respond to the notification from the watch - you do have to get your phone out to do anything. I crumbled because of this thread and the onset of wintery weather and ordered a Gotcha yesterday..

Thanks guys. I did some reading up on the my question #1 and it seems like what I want isn't really possible? I'm reading that I need to have Pokemon Go opened up as the app on my phone and that it can't be put to sleep, so I can't just run it in the background? With the Watch integration I was hoping that it could just read the sensor data that my watch collects passively, but I'm seeing that I a) need to have Pokemon Go running on my phone, and b) I need to explicitly "start a Pokemon go session" on the watch. So I can't just have the Pokemon Go apps on my phone and watch running in the background passively, meanwhile still getting credit for walking and hatching eggs and so on? What if I wanted to go running for exercise with another app on my watch, I can't double dip? e: vvv That's not a response to me is it? Either way the first thing I ever did the first time I tried this game was disable the AR because my phone was too slow for it, and because it was easier and less distracting to throw balls at things without the AR. vvv Boris Galerkin fucked around with this message at 07:20 on Oct 16, 2018 |

Not AR+, I don't think, but since the update the game is forcing capture into the camera mode, even though camera is not allowed, so it's a plain white background. I've reinstalled, and it's still the same. Any ideas? Edit: enabled camera permissions, restarted app, it asked if I wanted AR+, and then I was able to click the slider to turn all AR off, and we're back to normal. mehall fucked around with this message at 08:35 on Oct 16, 2018 |

You can push the Gotcha button one time to respond to the current notification. If you're out of balls, turn off notifications about nearby pokemon ingame. I run with a Gotcha and the garmin fit app every day and it works. You should always have it set to autospin pokestops except for maybe weird edge cases where you're going to take a gym first.

Boris Galerkin posted:Well that’s a bummer. Can I at least leave my phone at home and go running with just my watch or do I need to bring the phone with me always? The Pokémon app on the watch for sure needs a data connection, so if your watch is Bluetooth only no. In my experience so far I need the phone to be near the watch (aka Bluetooth) for the watch to work. I haven’t tested it in a while, I’ll test that today. The watch app is both great and blows. Honestly, it’s great for passively tracking steps for egg hatching and buddy candy. That’s basically what it does. But it won’t catch Pokémon for you, and as an earlier user mentioned, the notifications aren’t worth it. I work retail, so I’m on my feet and walking all day. I just run the watch app most days, I get like, 3-5km a day, and battery is usually at 20% by the end of a 8-9 hour shift (series 3). When I go out for whatever events, I do also sometimes run it then, I get get steps while both focusing on whatever I’m doing (like talking to people) and use my phone for other stuff when needed.
