Man, one of my favorite things about living in Oz was hearing a tree full of kookaburras go off right around sunset. It's just such an amazing otherworldly racket.

They do it at sunrise too, which is sometimes less welcomed.

Why do Australian magpies sound so weird

There's specific evolutionary reasons that Australian birds evolved particularly crazy calls
Magpies warbling is one of my favourite sounds.

i have recently learned that there is a type of owl that is named Powerful Owl. the name seems appropriate.

We get them in inner suburban Melbourne.
They scare the poo poo out of you at night because they wait until you walk right underneath them before they fly away and you just feel the beat of the wings in the air because they're so quiet.

They nest in tree hollows so you'd probably never see them

This is my second family, they sing to me and peck at the window if I'm too slow to give them seeds

The downside is they start ripping bits off your house

If it's not her house then I don't see the downside either

According to Wikipedia

"In general, musk ducks remain in the water all day long, alternately loafing and feeding energetically"

They also float really low in the water. They're cool, chill, loafing dudes, they put on a hilarious splashing and chirping display in mating season and the babies ride on the mother's back.

This is a sculpture I made of a pair, the male has the big wattle thing on his throat
