How long does it take to change the squads? Because in the worst case scenario that shootout could take ages. I've seen some dreadful hockey shootouts despite there being one attempt every 30 seconds or so.

Seeing as the defense can't return, couldn't you just park one offense-defense in one end zone and the other defense-offense in the other? Better yet, do that and they play simultaneously. But then they'd need to get Kevin Harlan to call the action.
