For C-Spam books Betting on Famine is one of the best books I've read that made me still angry to this day. Shock Doctine is also very good to give you a primer on Disaster Capitalism and its bizzare roots in CIA mind control.

I only really read books when travelling or on holiday though, dunno why, as soon as I'm in a foreign country I start blazing through them. Sitting on a beach reading books, eating good food and occasionally seeing something historical is basically all I want out of travel.
