real alien talk: Where is Everybody by Stephan Webb is a fun book about possible solution to the Fermi paradox. great pooper/commuter type book

cross postin’ from trump thread

anyway, it’s a fun book where the author describes 50 possible solutions to the Fermi Paradox which states, “where are they?” he said this to other great physicist while researching at the Manhattan project(? memory foggy) when debating about extraterrestrial life. his reason was roughly (stolen from Wikipedia)

-There are billions of stars in the galaxy that are similar to the Sun,[3][4], and many of these stars are billions of years older then the Solar system.[5][6]
-With high probability, some of these stars will have Earth-like planets,[7][8] and if the Earth is typical, some might develop intelligent life.
-Some of these civilizations might develop interstellar travel, a step the Earth is investigating now.
-Even at the slow pace of currently envisioned interstellar travel, the Milky Way galaxy could be completely traversed in a few million years

anyone else read it?

pretty sure I've heard of many of the solutions but the majority are insanely depressing :(

America's basically gone completely insane, and Trump is honestly just a symptom of the problem -- as anyone who's been reading this subforum for a while knows -- and the rot went terminal years and years ago. This book is really depressing/infuriating to read.

Finished the Eric Garner book. It somehow got me to empathize with the police as they are being solely blamed for enforcing a system decided by politicians voted in by lovely white people.

Abolish the police anyway.
