My wife is reading parable of the sower right now because John green is doing a crash course literature on it. From the bits and pieces she's told me over the breakfast table it sounds like a bit of a leftist koan and CSPAM af.

I'm really looking forward to cracking it open when she's done.

So, I just finished parable of the sower. It's like the inverse of atlas shrugged. A black teenage female escapes the horrors of privatized police and company towns to start a commune and save the space program.

It was written in 1993 and is set in 2027 so the dystopia (mostly) feels very plausible. It also feels like some of the things in the book like the anti vacc movement and politicians blaming the fracturing of society on too much government regulations are eerily prophetic, but I guess the right has been beating the same drum for a while now.
