it all started innocently, a friend reccomended fc kahuna's "hayling" as a good chill out track when you have a bad day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WjeWsiujmU next thing you know, I have 6 different chill stations on pandora ("chill out music", "chill", "tycho", "ambient", "fc kahuna", "vaporwave". can people post some chill music in here for me to listen to? |

Boards of Canada is well known and fits in with your six Pandora stations if you aren't listening to them already: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAkgUeJDgQ8 I feel like I've posted this song in another thread but here's a chill song by a band called Richard in Your Mind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlNyHxLIbB0 If you want something more ambient then BT's album This Binary Universe is also good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UK75HA8nsaU |

It's funny, as a person who just discovered clubbing and learning to DJ, I realized the type of music for me is super aggressive beat music like instrumental grime, trap, drum n bass, jersey club, or techno. I used to listen really calm or quiet OR overly abrasive music until i realized it was depressive that's not meant to be enjoyed with other people. When I discovered loud dance stuff it was the perfect outlet for letting out all my negative and repressed emotions and being able to enjoy and dance to the sounds that naturally resonate with me. I really like the chill music heavy hitters like com truise, boards of canada, clams casino, chrome sparks etc (also i really loved lemon jelly when i was 11). but its funny how far i've drifted from it. but then, i'll listen to and play so much fast aggressive dancey stuff that i want to 180 and hear something mega chill or quiet like moments in love by art of noise or like, ryuichi sakomoto. and then go in between loud and quiet and play like mariah carey. moods are fun speaking of do you guys like Moments In Love by Art of Noise omg its like the ultimate music composition https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4d67g8xulQ lmbo calrissian fucked around with this message at 08:22 on Dec 23, 2017 |

This is perhaps an off-the-wall recommendation, but I think the gold standard of chill music is acoustic bossa nova. The album "Getz/Gilberto" is probably the album most responsible for starting the bossa nova craze of the early sixties in America. It was the first non-American album to win a Grammy award for "Best Album of the Year", and it created the number one hit, "Garota de Ipanema" (translated as The Girl from Ipanema). It's also probably the album I've listened to more than any other. Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KpIV57PSeo I could talk about this music all day. e: I'm currently listening to this album for the first time in about six months and I've been struck again by a familiar, comforting feeling - something like love. This music is powerfully good blaise rascal fucked around with this message at 16:08 on Dec 23, 2017

I really like ambient music a lot and a lot of what I've discovered comes from a user supported internet radio station called SomaFM, in particular their Drone Zone and Space Station channels, i highly recommend checking those out Soma also has a station called Secret Agent that plays badass bond-esque music all the time, good to play when you want to feel like your life is a spy movie |

I'd like to take this opportunity to derail the thread by sharing a silly mashup track I made that isn't chill at all but fits only what I was talking about. +1 for the Getz/Gilberto or most bossa nova really. I would recommend the soundtrack to the Let's Get Lost documentary about Chet Baker as well (it's not bossa nova) but it might be a bit too melancholy and sad to be truly chill. More in the jazz vein this could be one of my favorite tunes of all time and always puts me in a peaceful mood. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nv2GgV34qIg also this type of poo poo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnzICutH_sE Devin Townsend - Ghost - this whole album is blissful The Clientele As far as other stuff I usually turn to bandcamp for discovery and here are some labels I like. All are fairly ambient so I dunno if that might be TOO chill. Can one be too chill? I dunno. Melody as Truth - great ambient works with just enough melody and movement to make it not too drowsy. I'd recommend anything by Suzanne Kraft or especially the Passive Aggressive album with her and Jonny Nash Serein - again very chill almost ambient compilations and others. Bludhoney - mostly ambient and electronic but occasionally can be a bit foreboding but always has a futuristic sci-fi vibe. Ultimae - chill electronic with psybient/downtempo feel that to me works well with being productive around the house or at work. Moderna Records - chill with a classical vibe. A lot of solo piano and small ensemble stuff Yo la Tengo, Grouper, Cigarettes After Sex, jeez you're right there's so much chill music! |

https://youtu.be/KDTXljIqxRE William DeVaughn - Be Thankful For What You've Got (Diamonds in the Back) When I woke up, I started playing this song before I got out of bed. I drank a pint glass of cool, clear water and stood on the deck watching the day break while I smoked a bowl and sang and danced along. I made myself a nice bowl of oatmeal with weed butter and pecans and raisins and honey and was real thankful for it. Now I'm sharing the sense of peaceful prosperity that this song brought to my morning with cyber friends in the hope they might be touched by that same feeling |
