I didn't see it but this is one of those things where there's a major gulf between audience and critical reaction and it occurred to me there's been a few things lately like that. The Orville, Star Trek Discovery and the new Star Wars all had wildly different reactions between the two groups.

Netflix touted “Bright” as the highest-viewed original film ever on the service in its launch week and one of the biggest originals it has ever debuted. They also added that “Bright” is the No. 1 movie on Netflix in every country, with more viewers internationally than domestically.

I quit watching after the show had the daughter ask Tim Roth a question out of nowhere for the sole purpose of having him lie to her about it so it could come back on him later. I'm so done with conflict centered around families lying to each other.

Yeah I just started s2 and so far we got the dude who wanted to be rich from Continuum and the russian lady from the s4 Arrow flashbacks. And Amanda Tapping, who I understand is also required by Canadian law to also direct every genre show

I knew something happened between Harmon and Megan Ganz while she was a writer on Community. A few days ago, Harmon was posting on twitter, something related to #metoo, and Ganz called him out, asking if he included himself in who he was condemning and there was this whole thing about it. Anyway, he did a full accounting and apology on his podcast this week and it's worth a listen.

The new series would feature an immigration twist and would follow the Buendias siblings, whose parents are unexpectedly deported to Mexico.

I don't see why it has to be a Party of Five reboot, just make that concept and it can be its own thing.

Also from that article:

quote:

In addition, Freeform is also developing a series based on the legendary Egyptian ruler Cleopatra, who, after being exiled as a young woman, decides to stand up against the patriarchy and fight back for her freedom and rightful place as heir. This tale will follow her rise and transition to becoming not only the first, last, and only female Pharaoh, but also the world’s most powerful person all while engaging in a classic love triangle that changed the map of the world forever.

Pretty sure there was another guy around at the time that might dispute that most powerful person in the world epithet.

I have yet to see the Netflix show that critics didn’t bitch about the pacing. I wonder how much of it is from the requirement that they have to watch the show as fast as possible to get the reviews out. Making something work saps the enjoyment out of it
