Another year passed and another year of horrible cartoons to vote on. Welcome to the Sixth Annual Gay Abortions!

Previous Years' Gay Abortions:
2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 Mid-term, 2015, 2016 Mid-Term, 2016, 2017 Mid-term

Process:
Any poster may submit cartoons until 23:59 EST on January 10th (Wednesday). Please only submit a single cartoon for each category. Please only submit a specific cartoon to a single category, the exception being Overall Worst Cartoon. A post does not require a nominee for each category. Everyone is allowed one post in which to nominate cartoons. If you would like to change your nominees, please edit that post before the deadline on January 10th. Please do not submit anything produced after December 31st of 2017.

What was submitted to the Mid-Term Repository will be automatically entered for nomination consideration.

Not all submissions will be in the final lists. If your nomination did not make the list I am sorry.

Voting will begin immediately after the submissions are compiled into the post below this one. Voting will last till 23:59 EST on January 17th. The votes will be tallied and results announced as soon as tallying is done. Vote for each category by naming the category and the letter indicating that political cartoon. A template ballot will be provided.

Judges:
Abyssal Squid, Scholtz, and I shall be the judges this year. All hail us.
The judges may agree to veto any submission or trim a list if there are too many nominees. Please ask if you have questions about the Gay Abortions Awards or any part of the nomination and voting processes.

Rules and Suggestions:
Standard D&D rules apply.
Please don't quote all the images from a nomination post unless you intend to discuss all them.
For discussions about current politics not related to the Awards, please take it to the regular Political Cartoons Thread.
Post political cartoons of at least some prominence. Any thread regular or syndicated cartoonist is fine, pulling cartoons from a nobody's DeviantArt account is not.
Please don't submit a single cartoon for more then one category. The exception to this is 'Overall Worst Political Cartoon' which may be a previously submitted one or a stand alone.

Worst Breakup with 44:
1st Place

2nd Place

Garrison wins with 35% of the vote, followed by Rall with 19%. This is the only first place Garrison will take this year and the only award that Rall will get at all.

Worst Nazi Sympathizer Cartoon:
1st Place

2nd Place

"Punching a nazi makes you the real nazi" Bruce Tinsley with 33%. Branco with second at 26%.

Worst Cartoon about a Tragedy:
1st Place

2nd Place (tied)

Kirschen takes first at 36%, Branco and Ramirez tie with 11 votes each.

Worst Obituary Cartoon:
1st Place

Kirschen blows this out of the water with 85% of the vote. Kind of a small pool this year, so that's a good thing, right?

Worst Caricature:
1st Place

2nd Place

Ramirez wins with 28% with his abominations. Bill Leak, who died in March, gets one final award with 24%.

Worst "A Thing Happened" Cartoon:
1st Place

2nd Place

I feel bad that the #metoo campaign got listed into A Thing Happened. That said, Gary McCoy won by 52% of the vote for this vile cartoon. McKee in second with 18%

Worst Cartoon about a Movie:
1st Place

2nd Place

Ramirez wins between both of his entries with 96% (54% and 42%). We will probably combine Movies into A Thing Happened next year.

Worst Label:
1st Place

2nd Place

Ramirez is on a roll taking first yet again with 26%. Wolverton not far behind with 24%.

Least Concealed Bigotry (Racism) in a Cartoon:
1st Place

2nd Place

Gary McCoy made a comic nearly identical to the one that won for Leak last year with 65% of the vote. Picking up most the remaining votes for 26% is Branco.

Least Concealed Bigotry (Islamophobia) in a Cartoon:
1st Place

2nd Place

Kirschen wins both first and second, 22% and 21%.

Least Concealed Bigotry (LGBT) in a Cartoon:
1st Place

2nd Place

gently caress you Delonas, 53%. gently caress you Gary, 17%.

Laziest Non-Gorrell Cartoon:
1st Place

2nd Place

Ramirez get first yet again with a blow out 63%. Varvel gets 10% by copying and flipping a cartoon from eight years ago.

Most Easily Reinterpreted:
1st Place

2nd Place

Lester 35%, McKee 15%.

Overall Worst Political Cartoon:
1st Place

2nd Place

Glenn McCoy made this way back in February and people we're rightly calling it for Worst then. For comparing Betsy DeVos to Ruby Bridges, he wins with 51%. Garrison comes in second with 31%.

Best Edit/Parody:
1st Place

2nd Place

Rorus Raz/Pants Donkey's edit became the Politoons thread title and for good reason wins with 35%. Angular Cyrus's edit comes in second at 14%.

From the tallying:

quote:

Abyssal Squid wrote on Jan 18, 2018 13:05:
Each category got this many votes for Ted Rall personally: 2 3 2 2 2 3 2 2 4 3 4 2 2 2 3
for those wondering how Rall did this year.

barometz posted:

The last few years I tried to go into detail about why for each these, but I'm tired and it's not like anyone really cares anyway.
I enjoy reading everyone's thought process while tallying the votes.
