I don't really know much about Devilman but this has most definitely caught my attention. Does it require much knowledge at all, or should I just dive right in?

So I ended up just binging the whole thing. I really liked it, but also drat. That didn't go exactly how I was expecting.

Well, this made me want to read the manga, but I've also heard that a lot of it is redrawn inconsistently and without charm? Are there multiple versions floating about or is the English version restricted to one of them? I'd honestly like to read the original version if possible.
